![]() With potential tariffs on the way, I wonder if Subaru will consider US production of future Impreza/WRX/STI’s?
With the Outback’s trend of going from station wagon to SUV now just about complete, I wonder if the Levorg might be considered as a non-direct competitor to fill out the line and fill the the now vacant market space for a true station wagon? |

![]() Just solidifying that you implied this is a WRX refresh or an STI or some sort of vehicle we would associate as a WRX for sale in US. When it's announced, let's see you squirm out of it.

I had hoped subaru used the STI hiatus to develop a dct for it, but then the S210 came out with that revised SPT to handle more torque so it sort of dashed my hopes for one. Right now for subaru, hybridization of the whole lineup is the way to go, not the all-electric route |

![]() This will be current gen VB WRX with a power bump and hybrid trickery. Reading between the lines of the original article, it sounds like they’re slapping together something “Subaru-like” using their current tech, which probably means the FA24 and Toyota’s TH2B hybrid system. So yeah, maybe an electrified WRX with some torque fill and “interesting” design cues. They even admitted the new boxer engine isn’t ready in time, so whatever this car is, it’s not the big comeback we all want. My guess is this thing will be a teaser, a stepping stone leading to the real STI return a couple years down the road once the new engine and platform are actually ready. If they pull it off right, we might finally get something that isn’t a CVT-laden buzzkill. Fingers crossed.

![]() I think it's going to be some kind of different (or more powerful) drivetrain in a Solterra-like body.

![]() It could be a lot of things , I’m asking you to say what it is. See it’s easy for you to sit back and wait for some else to be wrong about something, and act like you’re the know all, but you never say anything. All you do is reiterate what is already online

![]() stop projecting. You've insinuated that this was the vindication you've sought when you lied about an emergency refresh...despite being years past the expiration date for your claim. This is just another episode of you not knowing what you're talking about. I've gone out on a limb and you've gone out on a limb. Let's see which one snaps.

![]() Are we still expecting something STI-ish MY2028…and will it live up to what the STI was..
What’s the general consensus, as of today? |

![]() Nope . No STI and this isn’t the STI. Expect to see some production STI cues on this , I’m pretty sure based on an educated guess this concept will use the gearbox from one of the race cars. I was told , that there was one VB car Japan produced for some series that had the VB STI trans and a few other unknown bits on it. This won’t be a production car at the Japan mobility show, I can nearly guarantee that. I think It’s part spin on what the Japanese spec STI could of been with some other bits for showcasing tech etc

![]() The craziest part is Honda has no problem selling every CTR they make at a markup, VW has the golf R and GTI etc, GR Corolla crushing it. I know penalties is what ended it, but you think they’d eat money on each car #1 for the near three decade Subaru loyals & ownership base; and #2 for the halo effect it brings to the brand . Four years since the last Sti left NA showrooms, in another four years it’ll be an entire generation of kids who won’t be bleeding blue and gold

![]() I said what it's not...with conviction. Your squirminess is gross. gaslight, redirect, move goalposts. r4 playbook... and what you posted above is still wrong. Go back and edit all your posts on this because I'm coming as soon as the reveal does.

![]() The thing that im sure Subaru finds a bit worrisome, is yes they can make a new STI, yes they can drop a hybrid in it, but what are sales going to look like. They're trying to satisfy multiple countries laws and regs - We all saw what happened with the Hiking Shoe.
But how about the Nissan Z. That thing is absolutely Boutique because of the price, still haven't seen one out on the road. Im sure Subaru knows if they dropped an STI it'd have to be more of a car to buy over something like the new 330hp Audi S3. The S3 is a 50-60k car on its own. Im sure the STI would be priced around the same. Same price for a Good deal on a V8 Chevy 1500 LT 4x4. So its tricky, release a Halo Car at the risk of seeing low sales like the Z? (In which-case that might give them enough to kill off the car - Mitsubishi Evo Shenanigans). They will need to make this thing really nice in opposition standards, while also undercutting the cost of the opposition. However, personally I don't think it would be tricky if the car sat at $44-45k for a Premium, $46-48k for a limited. Would still be a Nice option considering the Interior trim and materials historically present in these cars. (But see this is for an ICE model - Price range I mean -with an expected 330-380Hp) Hybridized with closer to 400hp - 340-370 ish torque, would absolutely push this thing into the 50's easily. The Battery is going to weigh that 3400-3700lb WRX down. And im sure Subaru is kinda iffy on the possible returns for such a car - Whether owners can say, "Yeah id spend 50k on that." The same thing sort of happened with the EVO MR. People bought them - they were super nice, but not a "ton" of people did. Personally id buy a 2nd Truck for that price range of 52-56k. Because of such low expected returns, Subaru would have to make the car more accessible for all drivers and taste - Which the current WRX does a good job of already. So like I said, its a tricky business venture with everything so COVID-inflated. Its absolutely more safe for Subaru to make a Hybrid Trim of the WRX like Toyota does with the Tacoma currently - (Not what I want to see, but idk what else Subaru can do if they're set on not releasing another ICE WRX/STI generation.) ![]() Honda sells every CTR they make and most of them go for over sticker. Toyota sells every (manual) GR Corolla they make. Volkswagen sells every Golf R.
I don't buy "Subaru can't figure out how to make a car they can sell," because they have in the past, and they do now. They just don't want to be in that segment of the smallish volume sports car segment anymore, and that's fine. |

Exactly. USDM is something like 70% of their global sales. Barely 1 million total. To compare, Suzuki, not even in the U.S. anymore, sold over 3 million cars last year. Now, before they sold off Subaru Power, they were the 4th largest engine manufacturer in the world(crazy right?!). I still don't understand that move. When I took the Gunma tour in April, they said the aerospace side only accounts for, like, 2% of their business. I might be a bit off. I'm at the station today. I'll find the brochure they gave me. I think it was in there. Honda......if it combusts fuel, they make it. Help me to know what they don't make, if they don't. Sure, Subaru has lots of money still; but, isn't that the point of business? To make money? Not pander to a "low" volume customer that isn't substantially helping that end goal? The comment of Honda/Toyota/VW selling every car. Well yeah. That's not much an issue when you make them low volume by design. Make them in the numbers Subaru has offered with the WRX line and perhaps they don't get to sell them above MSRP? But, I'm also in the camp very disappointed in this company that can't seem to get their emissions under control? I was ready to get that STI, |
