![]() I took my car from Phoenix, AZ to Flagstaff, AZ for Christmas. This morning when I went to leave my hotel the car didn't want to start. When it finally started, it idled really weird, going from around 500 rpms to 2000 rpms. Felt like it was going to die. I let it run for about ten minutes before leaving to warm up. Now it will not boost over 5 psi. Last night I put gas in it at a litle hole in the wall station last night because it was the only one around so I think I may have gotten bad gas, but I have no cel. I added some octane booster to see if it would change, but nothing yet. Yesterday before I left it shot some black crap out of the exhaust but I assumed it was from the Lucas injector cleaner I was running. The exhaust seems clean now. Reset the ecu and changed the realtime map to stage 2 91 octane but still won't boost. No metal shavings in the oil, and its a fresh change to Royal Purple 10w40. Car is an 05 wrx, perrin inlet hose, sti tmic, helix catted down, greddy evo 2 cb, cobb up, cobb ap.

![]() did you check all the vac/boost hoses? and the hoses on the output side of the compressor?

![]() yup. no abnormal noises like leaks either. the turbo to tmic is off a little but still sealed (always like this, only about 1/8''). someone said my turbo may be shot, its at 31k so I guess maybe, but only had the junk in the exhaust once.

![]() There's always a chance the black stuff was your cat de-catting itself (thought it doesn't sound related to the rough running/low boost). How many miles you got on it?

![]() at least 10k maybe 20k. could the low boost be because of bad gas?

![]() I checked my boost electronically with my ap and it is reading 13-14 psi, so it seems that my mechanical gauge is just off? I'm still a little low, but not as drastically. I guess its just the change in elevation?

![]() I once had my car act like it was going to die everytime it would boost just driving on the interstate. It got so bad that it did it even when still in vacuum. Thought the fuel pump was going out. I ended up adding some octane booster and chalked it up to bad gas. It hasn't done it since.
