The inside of my wrx has a very strong smell of gas. I was wondering if it has anything to do with the bov because it sits right on top of the engine. I also have a turbo back exhaust system so could that be part of the issue? Are there any other factors that could lead to this like a fuel line leak and would i still be under that free fix from the dealer? I just bought this car and i need it to be inspected soon so a quick reply would be great. Thanks.

If you can smell raw fuel there is fuel leaking somewhere, just have to find it. BOV, exhaust, none of that has anything to do with the fuel system. Inspect all of the fuel lines and fittings that you can see. If you have an 02-07 pay special attention to the rubber hose between two metal lines at the front of the motor by the intake manifold.

Thanks for the reply i will look into that. I do have another question because when coming to a stop the car likes to stall and i was wondering if giving the mass air flow sensor a clean would solve that problem or cleaning out the iac or the throttle body would help.

Certainly couldn't hurt things.

It's unlikely that the fuel leak is a result of the problem that was/is the subject of the recall, because that leak happened in cold temps -- generally well below freezing.

I first noticed mine leaking when it was 7 degrees outside and very windy.

I have an 07 sti w/194k and the raw gas smell has started getting stronger. I took the car to the dealership and they performed a smoke test. The tech noted that smoke was coming from someplace on top the fuel tank and recommended changing both roll over valves and vent valve. Does/did anyone have experience with this issue and fixed it themselves? Any tips and/or part numbers? Was it a hose or clamp failing?

Thanks in advance for any help.
