I'm going to have to do some precise measuring before purchasing. I would love to, but I'm afraid of my room with the regular wrx rear fender bodywork not flaring as wide as a stock sti's, it might limit me to 10.5, even with the extra camber I would be running with the 6 speed.
That would be sick tho. I need to hurry up and get to a point where I am happy with this car so I can start on my 240sx. The amount of power I should be able to put down out of a light weight and properly set up rwd with ls power should be phenomenal. I am staring to get close to doing some research and decide parts combos so my wrx could be a fun daily driver and the real bad boy would be a fully tracked out 240sx. |

once you cut the for the Karlton flares the bugeye isn't any different.
18x11s are a bit overkill for a street car. Get some nice 18x10.5s with a +15 or +10mm offset and run a 275/35/18, keep it inexpensive and fun. |

Yeah, but if I gotta get new rims anyways might as well go all the way. 305's aren't that much more expensive than 285's, which aren't that much more than 275's. In fact, I think thats the problem with my car modding philosophy, I always go all in and do overkill, but it sure is fun when its done.

Sounds good. I'm very excited to experience the potency of the new setup. Car is set to go in to Lic on Monday for it s first oil change, just covered the first 500 miles of the break in procedure. 1000 more miles then I get to get this setup tuned. I can already tell you I am very excited for the half liter of displacement and exxtra torque of this setup. The Blouch turbo should be a very fun and responsive setup.
I must say even already I am loving the smoothness of the engine LIC put together. Plus, it is very nice to have an engine that is entirely brand new, heads rebuilt, new valve job, etc. Now just gotta save for a new tranny... |

Good info on the flares and cutting. I thought for sure it would still limit my available room with the wrx bodywork. Glad I can fit some manly rubber under there if I need to. |

First oil change completed on Monday after 500 miles. OIl levels looked good, no leakage and no unusual debris in the oil. Have my next scheduled oil change on Tuesday which will put the engine at 1000 miles. One more oil change, 1500 miles, then we tune for some power and I start letting everything out of the bag that we did and why. Always like to get stuff completed first, plus I have to remember to bring down a thumb drive to get all the pictures from Lic that they took during the build.

Just picked up the car last night from LIC after getting its second oil change. 1000 miles down and inching closer to finishing the break in of the motor and getting it tuned for some real power. I will put another 1000 miles on the car and go in for a final oil change, switch to synthetic, and get the car tuned. I broke in the car at no boost for the first 500 and a 4000 rpm rev limit. The second 500 miles I broke in at light boost (5-7 psi) with a rev limit to 4500 rpm. For the final 1000 or so miles I will be keeping it to low boost (5-7 psi) with a 5000 rpm rev limit. We are doing some extra break in miles as I am putting enough miles on the car with my commute to give the engine extra miles to seat the rings. Since I am local, this is no inconvenience and a little extra time now is worth it to have a reliable, trouble free engine. Right now there are no problems or issues with the ring sealing or break in, all is normal, but we figured to ensure a really good break in we could run it an extra 500 miles before switching to synthetic and getting it tuned. So, hopefully in two weeks, we can get the car tuned and rev this bad boy out and start enjoying this setup***8230;.
I can say even during break in the engine is remarkable smooth throughout my limited rev range. |

I have just now seen this. Just "read" through all 24, high quality parts and crazy attention to detail! Keep up the good work. Can't wait to see what becomes of it

I got a couple more big parts to buy in the near future, then the car should be done. It should be a fun lil street car when it gets its final tune. |

Yeah I know I've been lagging. I've been having problems with my digital camera plus I figured I would post everything once it's done and tuned, because when I post what was done and why I know the next question will be to post a dyno graph. So I've just been lagging, more are coming though. Gotta remember to bring my memory card down to Lic motorsports so they can download the photos of the work they did. Good reminder, I'm scheduled for my final oil change on friday, I need to throw a memory stick in my car for them.

Just the motor/turbo setup described earlier. LIC Motorsports B1.5 Block with a blouch dominator 1.5 xtr turbo. So have an sti shortblock with drop in je pistons and rings, with wrx heads that have been properly converted over to work with the sti shortblock. It's just that I was seriously eyeing a full race efr rotated turbo kit, but ca smog laws would not allow it. I hate note getting a part setup that would be superior, just because of the visual for smog. Oh well, still will be an amazingly fun car, I just really wanted to try out the efr/full race twin scroll setup. At least it will be able to pass ca smog.
Minor update- car is currently at Lic motorsports getting its final oil change, engine break in is complete. No signs of problems or issues during break in, no excessive oil consumption/blow by. The rings seem to habve seated well. We prolonged the engine break in a little bit since I am local, so we did about 2300 miles of engine break in. First 500 with no boost low rpms, and slowly adding boost and rpm's every 500 miles. Switching over to synthetics and setting up a date with Tyler at Snail performance to do the final tune. Getting excited, it will be nice to see how this setup performs and start saving for the next step. Last edited by soccer05; 01-10-2014 at 05:54 PM. |

I really, really wanted to. I called Yimisport who had done a lot of the testing on the kit and asked them, and they said it probably would fail the visual portion of the smog test. I really don't agree with parts of the california smog test, even if you pass the actual emissions they will nail you on the visual. Since those parts don't look oem, they look like quality aftermarket, it would most likely fail. It was just too big of a gamble to take. I'm bummed, that would have been a really fun setup. I had called and was ready to order, but if it wasn't close enough to pass smog then I couldn't do it. I wish california would change their smog laws to a straight emissions test, as I feel that is what really matters. Who cares if the parts are changed if emmissions is still exactly the same. I'm leaving some performance on the table, but I guess that will be motivation for me build a dedicated track car and not worry about emissions (even though I still like the environment and will run it through a high performance cat)

Minor update- right now at snail performance getting the final tune on the car. Took forever to line up a time with my work schedule and Travis' but we finally got a block of time to nail this thing out. Just swapped my Aps 3 inch exhaust on last night and drove the car up without hitting boost. Prepped for the tune past night, oil change with fresh royal purple xpr oil, topped off fluids, and checked for exhaust leaks. Should be ready for final numbers, and begin saving for a 6 speed. We will be keeping the numbers lower than what the turbo can produce for reliability because of my tmic and fragile 5 speed. Should still be a fun lil car at this point, with room to grow in the future. Really looking forward to a 6 speed with is giken diffs and a proper set of coil overs.
