Tried the Accessport Economy mode...
On the last leg of our recent roadtrip I decided to try the Economy Mode ('06 WRX) after fueling up in Kamloops. I have driven this 610km section in the WRX before, when I brought it back from Seattle, where I bought it.
My last trip with the WRX w/o AP returned 8.1L/100km. This trip in Economy mode returned 7.9L/100km This is pretty much what I was expecting..a small difference that could be due to break-in of engine and driving conditions. What I did notice was that the Economy map reduced the drivability in the mountains. This time I had difficulty keeping the car in 5th/100kph. This was not a problem during the last trip w/o the AP. I guess the reduction in boost limited the power just enough....

What??? The AP comes with an Economy mode??? Just kidding, might do the same on an upcoming road trip to Saskatchewan. Good to see that you actually did see a noticable gain.

The economy map used to be great... great drivabillity, and better gas milage with the older maps. Now, with the new economy map I can't drive in econo mode any more, it sucks. As the map now limmits boost to 7 PSi at all TPS levels, even at full pedal... nothing much happens. Cobb should re-do the map and allow at least stock boost levels at full pedal, It's almost dangerous to try and pass a car with the power cut back so much.

I work out of town so I have lots of highway driving on my 02 wrx and 06 wrx both at stage 2 and I tried the economy modes on both cars as well. I didnt find really any increased mileage on either car using the economy mode that was worth changing over and loosing the power. I just run the stage 2 map all the time now........then if someone on the highway wants a piece of the wrx Im ready.....

I haven't tried econ yet, but when I do, I'll do a 'controlled test' and report the results. I've logged 4500 litres since I bought it 2 years ago, and some definite trends have emerged.
I average 18.7 MPG (12.62L/100km) around town. That includes winter when it's way worse. These days I get 19.5 - 20.5MPG. Best ever on the highway was 29.3MPG. This was cruising from Edson to Edmonton (downhill) at 115km/h with NO throttle action from me - just the cruise control. Under the same conditions I got 28.7MPG cruising at 115 from Edmonton to Rocky Mountain House (uphill.) On a related note: The tank I burned going from Kamloops to Jasper last year did a little worse than your 8.1L/100km...I got 10.9L/100km (21.5MPG) It was...umm...rather fun! |

I haven't tried the eco mode either but have been interested (to a point).
Since I don't drive my car very much (work too much) I don't mind pounding the crap out of my Stage 2 04 rex and worry about filling it up later. |

I also have never tried the econo mode. The point of the AP for me was to get more power not less. As for mpg alot of people claim 2-3mpg better on stg 2. I'll pretend this is true and keep all my ponies on standby ready to pounce at any time.
