Yeah, welcome to the vast emptiness known as Dallas. We have to import tuners, FIS is pretty good mechanically, and Kingpin....well, you know.

For the most part TXIC folks will recommend Engine Logistics in Houston and MZM in Austin.

What about Alamo in Arlington? They have built 2 of my cars (94 turbo Accord and my 02 WRX) and I have not had any problems with them. They also have a DynoJet AWD dyno. Number is 817.860.4300 and ask for Brice. He's a kewl dude and is very knowledgable.

^^ my experience with alamo is very poor. Unless you have money or have developed a relationship overtime they will not pay attention to you. Their expertise in the field of awd is not that impressive either.

On topic question: Anyone with a road tune by Kingpin?

EDIT: I think I need to ask this question in a new thread. I apologize to the OP for the result that has not answered his question nor mine.

I wouldn't let anyone from kingpin tune my car.Nothing against them personally but I just don't think they have the skill.

How can kingpin produce tangible results without a dyno?

they don't . they haven't produced tangable results since Clark left. Clark was Kingpin. He was who everyone thought of when the word Kingpin was mentioned.

Default Tuning suggestions

Sinse you have an STi and there is no mention of it being staged, I would take it slow. Goto Subaru of Dallas, buy a Cobb AccessPort, Cobb Turbo Back Exhaust, all performance stuff. If you're instrested in better handling, get some anti-sway bars with the Adjustable Slider Mounts and some springs or instead of springs get some coilovers. Protunes are for peeps with larger than stock turbos, FMIC, fuel rails, etcc. If you're wanting something above and beyond stage 3 (stage 3 soon to be out from Cobb) then I would consider a protune but you'll need lot's of after market parts to make it worth your wild.

If you're wanting to see what Cobb can do for a car performance and suspension wise for under 3k I'd be glad to meet up and show you my car.

If not, at least goto www.hotsubarus.com aka: Subaru of Dallas and ask Chris Flemming. Tell him your budget and what you want out of your mods and he'll steer you in the correct direction. BTW, he built/drives this Cobb/SoD sponsored STI...it's on the Cobbtuning.com and hotsubarus.com websites.

And, to date, he strives to recoup the damages to his personal finances and reputation.

Just so you know, Chris is at Subaru of Plano now. Curtis is at SoD. You should be able to get the Accessport from either location though.

ProTune's are always going to be better than off-the-shelf maps. OTS maps are going to be a lot safer. With a Protune, the tuner is able to adjust maps accordingly to each car. The OTS maps are safe though(almost always running on the richer side, for safety).
