KYB AGX and Tein H-Techs on my 2004
Last night a friend and I installed the above mentioned suspension parts on my '04 WRX. I would like to note, that the KYB AGX are specific to the '04, but they were the exact same size front and rear, so using the springs made for the '04 as well as my stock '04 tophats, they fit perfectly.
Impressions: After getting everything installed, I took my car out for a spin with the struts set to 3F/2R. The road feel is drastically improved! As far as being harsher, that is sort of subjective. Yes, the spring rates are higher and the struts are stiffer, but over most pavement I couldn't tell an enormous difference in harshness. Over potholes and larger bumps it is definately harsher, but the springs and struts are a good fit together and I ended up leaving it on 3F/2R because I can deal with a little harshness in my daily drive. Body lean - is significantly reduced; I wanted to get springs and struts before sway bars because I would rather fine tune the suspension with sways than them first like most people do. There is still more than I would like, but most of the vague "floaty" feeling the car would get sometimes is gone. Under-Steer - is also reduced. I took a pretty sharp turn faster than I normally do and the car felt alot more neutral. I think with the final addition of sway bar(s) I will be able to get the car to a very planted, neutral feel without sacrificing too much comfort. Looks - The car looks a ton better. The fender gap with my stock wheels and tires is about 2 fingers in fron and 1 in the back. The car looks even and agressive without looking "dumped" or "slammed" and I didn't have a problem getting out of my driveway or into the parking lot at work today. I'm going to take some pics and start an informational thread about using the struts designed for 2002-2003's on the 2004 model. I always love it when I install something aftermarket and it goes smoothly and the mods performance exactly as I intended for them to and even them some! Bottom line: I'm very pleased indeed.
