Default Civic Type R Teased in Full Camo

The whole thing looks good actually. Seems like there's even sidewalls on these tires?

That's the prettiest looking camo color I've seen. This car is a tale of two ends. Looks really good from the rear 3/4 as shown above but the front 3/4 (photo in the link) looks odd with the horizontal hood line and the forehead bump above the grille. Overall much more tasteful than the outgoing model. Is it me or does it look like they went down to 19" wheels?

Honda Unleashes Camo-Covered 2023 Civic Type R
Quote:
The wait is nearly over.
We know this has been coming for quite some time and it's nearly here. The next-generation Honda Civic Type R is expected to be fully revealed in the very near future. An exact date has not been announced but it'll happen in 2022.
Today, the automaker has released two images of the 2023 Civic Type R hot hatchback covered in camouflage. Unlike previous spy shots, these reveal a significant amount of design details and general styling. Compared to the base hatchback, the Type R will have familiar performance-related enhancements such as a lowered suspension, vented hood, and larger wheels with Brembo brakes. Look closely at the new images and you'll see that the prototype is wearing Michelin Pilot Sport 4 rubber and red brake calipers.

The rear spoiler looks a bit less aggressive than that of its predecessor though it still immediately catches the eye. The triple-pipe exhaust remains center-mounted. Like the entire eleventh-generation Civic lineup, the new Type R boasts a cleaner, less edgy styling than its predecessor.

The cleaner look seems to carry over just fine to the hot hatch. Looking more closely at its front end, we can see a large air intake, a new honeycomb grille pattern, and large camo-covered vents. The interior will receive the usual Type R appointments, such as unique badging, upgraded materials, and a sports steering wheel.

No pictures of the cabin have been released for now and what's happening under the hood remains a mystery. Chances are high the next Type R will be powered by an upgraded version of the current gen's 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four, now rated at 306 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque. Sources indicate output will reach as high as 340 hp. Power will still go to the front wheels only through a six-speed manual transmission. There have been rumors that Honda is planning an AWD hybrid setup supposedly good for at least 400 hp. If we were waging bets, we'd go with the former powertrain.

For now, Honda says development continues of its next hot hatch and that it'll be the "best performing" Civic Type R ever. We can hardly wait.

2023 Honda Civic Type R teased, and here's what we can make out
The right amount of maturity and aggression

Honda left the wraps on the next-generation Civic Type R, but thankfully for us Honda made the wrap skin-tight. The more revealing outfit reveals details we suspected when we got spy shots of the hot hatch in May.

Larger grilles will be joined by a set of intakes that are still covered. Some serious front fender blisters include rear edge vents to clear air out of the wheel wells, and chunkier side sills lead to thicker rear haunches. What looks like low-profile Michelin Pilot Sport 4S rubber wrapping what could be 20-inch wheels fills the wheel arches nicely. In back, an aggressive diffuser houses a diesel locomotive-like triple trumpet horn array masquerading as an exhaust. The obligatory rear wing stands atop the hatch with a little nod to the latest Porsche GT3, stanchions placed a little ways up the hatch, the trailing edge of the hatch curling into a slight spoiler.

Most important, the whole package is less fussy, freed from gaping vents and Transformer angles. This Civic Type R doesn't look like it spends most of its time being throttled at redline to get to a house party, or doing 90 in a 45. It will be up to the trademark red seats and fake carbon fiber trim to make drivers feel like that's what's happening, as it should be.

Under the hood we expect an updated version of the last Type R's turbocharged 2.0-liter engine making more than 306 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque, its entire output sent to the front wheels through a manual transmission as standard. It's been expected that pricing wont' break the $40,000 mark when the Civic Type R goes on sale next year as a 2023-model-year offering, but the way the market and MSRPs are going, we wouldn't place bets on that. Honda says the car's headed for Nürburgring testing, so a proper debut shouldn't be far away.

Looks like they got rid of the fake vents in the rear.

Not bad at all. I definitely like this generation better than the previous gen. Finally saw the new hatch in the wild, very clean looking, I think it'll age well.

I like it a lot, but it seems to be missing something... not sure.

You what <snaps fingers>

I got it..

all it needs is some huge ugly black plastic cladding over the wheels and make the entire rear bumper unpainted.. that will look the business.

Scared to see the car without the camo. Looks really good as-is and all the now-hidden faux vents are going wreck everything.

It definitely looks more toned down than the current gen. Even the rear wing is simpler and there's no top hatch/roof spoiler

Careful, this is still camo'd. Honda has been known to throw black plastic at their designs.

Do those tires look too wide, like meant for the photo only?
To me, front looks very Integra or SE-R. Rear looks...clean!

Seriously, Some SH-AWD and I would move to Honda once I decide to sell my car.

The closer anyone can get to making a GV STI hatchback the better IMO. I wish VW would put big swollen fenders and hips on the GTI/R for 265 clearance.

The front fenders seem to be wider, than a normal Civic.

Hopefully it will be produced in far greater numbers this time around with lower trim options rather than being only offered as a touring model.

Yes please ! Maybe that's going to slow down dealership ADM madness. One can hope.

Big rounded front fenders and big rounder rear quarter panels. Reminds me of the M3. At least Honda has a bit more sense than Subaru to tack on corny fender flares. Still don't like the overall shape of this generation of the Civic.

On a separate note I wonder if Honda has addressed the over heating issues experienced by track drivers. The horrible syncro grinding reported by many, the heavy oversized 20" wheels. Hard to tell but I wonder if those are 6 pot brakes in the front. Also hard to tell but I think there are two scoops on the hood to pull away heat from the motor. Hoping there is a bump in HP.

Just realized the camo pattern is a drawn silhouette of the car and red “R”s after zooming in.

I thought the Type R guys were able to fit 265's ? I have 265's on my 10th Gen Accord no rubbing and I am lowered (on 18x9.5 wheels). Either way def looks like an improvement from outgoing model.

Way batter than previous gen. But it's likely still going to be front end traction limited like the last one.

I really like the racing style (metal) uprights on that wing. I wonder if its angle of attack is adjustable?
