Post What are the optimal shift points for saving gas?

Is it true that if you shift too low, ie around 2000 rpm, you get worse gas mileage than if you keep your shifts around 3000 - 4000 rpm? I heard that going up the hill you gotta keep the rpms high for some reason. thx

2ND 9000 RPM
3RD 11000 RPM
4TH 450 RPM (ITS A SHORT GEAR)
5TH 10000+ RPM

you have to keep the RPMs high when going uphill because the subaru AWD system has a little ball of mercury in it that slides backwards when you go up hill that makes the gas slide out of the engine to the back of the center diff. The high RPMs make the alternator spin faster thus:
force*velocity= (speed-drag)

Its also good to downshift while the engine is at its peak RPM.
