Toyota’s own description of their Supra:

The all-new 2020 GR Supra is no mere sports car - it’s our purest expression of performance, designed to allow driver, car and road to become one.

Toyota already made an RC-F. The Supra was supposed to be the answer to bitching moans about gutlessness of the 86, not a cheaper RC-F. The rocket ship Camry can come auto only. Not this, man. And Tada and everyone pretending who cares knows it.

Uh huh, and the industry has 4 door coupes.

Let's not worry about what the marketing department thinks.

They call them 4 door coupes though because of their coupe profile . You are adding your own definition to the Supra. Omitting the manual doesn’t change what this car is. A 2 door sports car with an unfortunate lack of connecting the driver to the car and road because either cost or fudging the balance.

Default Toyota to revive Supra nameplate?

This car doesn’t speak to me at all. Not a fan of the styling, auto non-DCT transmission. Price is okay but I’d rather spend a little less for something like next generation STI (if it comes with new motor, DI) or a little more for something like an M3.

I'm a fan of cohesive styling, so I'd say the twins, mustang, or any mazda.

The headlights, nose, and enormous fender-hood things are all serious detractors for me.

Let's just agree that looks are subjective.

I personally like the way the Supra looks (fake vents be damned!), I also like the looks of the Mazda 3 (from most angles).
Admittedly, the CTR was a bit too far into the "pep-boys threw up on it" for my tastes though.

Also, grain of salt, even though I, as many do, find the FD RX7 to be a very attractive car, possibly the best looking Mazda to date, I also like the looks of the 87-93 fox body mustang in all it's "box body" glory, and I like the 06-07 hawkeye wrx/sti, so my tastes are... broad...

I can tell you that the Supra looks better to me than it's BM sibling.

I hope this car does really well, because it has so much room for improvement. The more they sell, the more justification they have to bring a manual and other trim options. This thing is young in its development, and I anticipate Toyota doesn't plan on just letting it go stagnant.

I think this will look simply amazing in real life. The One I saw at the autoshow was jaw droppingly beautiful.

Ironically I think they look the same in person and photo. There’s just no lines and it looks like an egg.

That Mazda highlights why the Supra is a breath of fresh air. Cohesive has its place but we’ve seen it over and over for years. How many Caymans or TTs do there need to be?

Cohesive and boring aren't mutually inclusive. You can have cohesion front to back on a car while still having wildly unique styling.

While I agree the mazda 3 hatch looks kinda poop, that has more to do with hatch than anything else IMO. I'm just not a fan of hatches aesthetically.

Ha ha ha. I’m taking this with a grain of salt as you love Mazda so much that they could roll out the Aztek with a Mazda badge and you would call it amazing design. Personally I feel the 3 is too safe and boring, looking too much like last gen. A mistake that basically killed the current gen Camaro and what I feel will make this generation age poorly.

Almost 500ftlbs from the factory anyone? Talk about underrating the numbers...

I wouldn't call 427 "almost" 500. Impressive and unexpected, yes, but it's much closer to 400 than it is to 500.

Wonder if they underrated the numbers on purpose so as not to show up BMW and put out a better spec sheet than their own car. A new Gentleman's Agreement, if you will

Ah. Makes sense then.

Semi-related but there was a huge debate on the 2015+ WRX group on Facebook awhile back. And by debate I mean everyone ganging up on one guy for being an idiot. Someone posted their list of mods and stated that they put down 275whp. Idiot A chimes in and says there's no way he did all those mods and only got a 7HP increase since the car comes with 268hp stock. Literally over 200+ comments later and the guy still doesn't know the difference between WHP and crank HP and then goes on to rant about how Subaru lies and should be charged with false advertisement and bait and switch and that nobody else in the car industry "lies" about HP numbers.

This Supra is so throwback that Toyota thought they were in a "gentleman's agreement" concerning horsepower. Pish posh! Have at thee!

Like I mentioned in the other thread, I'll reserve my yay's until more (production, not press) cars have hit dynos.

Surely they are smart enough to know that using ringers will end up badly for them. This isn’t the 80s where dynamometer access was poor and it isn’t a Ferrari where they really control who ends up with them.

Then again, we are living in the post-truth world. As long as you don’t admit being incorrect or fault and keep slightly changing the message, you can apparently get away with lying.
