But by the looks of the lip and bumper before the wash, I think there was really nothing left of the rabbit afterwards.. It wasn't me! First time was a teenage girl, then a street grater, and now a rabbit! |

I hit a rabbit driving the alcan going about 120kmh (which for you americans is somewhere around 70mph) It went through the car bra and punched out the plastic grill. Makes me wonder how long it was stuck in that hole before it bounced out. sure left a lot of hare though...

I'll just keep from derailing the Seward thread here.
WGMG: Only a select few places to cruise to from Anchorage. I miss being able to go several different places in the lower 48. I've done the Seward cruise twice with Subaru people and on family trips at least 8 or 9 times. I love the idea of getting people together but it sucks going to the same goddamn place every time. I'll save you all the trip. Drive around Anchorage, stop 15 times to take pictures of your cars. Then go eat at an overpriced substandard restaurant. Go home 10 minutes after you're done eating. It's the same...thing....every...time. |

gotta agree with you...
Now that I get out riding on the motorcycle... I've run outta places. Either I cruise around town. Or I cruise the glenn or new seward. Back home I could go in every direction. Trip to the big city? which one? got one in each direction. north, south, east or west? Wanna go to the beach for the day? sit on some warm sand with a cold beer? Or walk a sandy beach from pub to pub? That also was very possible to do in every direction you could go. All you had to decide was did you want cold water (lake huron) or warm water (lake erie) I remember going on car cruises back home where we could drive in a city for several hours and never cross the same road twice. Here I can be outside our "city" in about 10 mins either direction... Does it bother me enough right now to make me move? no... but in a few years... maybe. |

We discovered Latitude 62 Lodge in Talkeetna this past Saturday when we flew up there. An awesome 14oz. Prime Rib dinner for only $21. It was THE best I remember having in many years. Talkeetna also has Twister Creek Restaurant with great food. Then there is Talkeetna Roadhouse too with great food and a bakery that you will get fat from just window shopping. Sheep Mountain Lodge (Glenn Hwy Mile 113.5) has great pies. Open for the season on May 18th. Long Rifle Lodge (Glenn Hwy Mile 102.2) has a great Glacier Burger and Halibut Burger. Hungry Yet? |

Sheep Mountain Lodge is a pile of tall brush in the summer but amazing bunny hunting in the winter. But yes, they have great pies. Long Rifle Lodge has good burgers but I think they would need to pay me to stay there. We joke about that place everytime we pass there, but their blankets make sparks whenever you move which is cool lol. Problem with all these places are they lack big parking lots to take nice scenic pictures. |

Talkeetna has a huge lot at the end of their "strip" which is where everyone parks in the summertime to walk around the town.
I want to tackle that Seward's Folly burger before I leave AK too. The whole point of a cruise is to drive, not take pictures every 8.3 miles.... |

What Qwik said. Plus there are several side streets with parking without getting in someones yard. Besides, I'd be parking my Goldwing. It only takes up half the space of a Subaru -- more choices.
Also, at/near Long Rifle there is the Glacier Overlook down the road that has tons of parking. At Sheep Mountain, they could easily accomodate a lot of traffic too. Just park smartly. At either place, if you call in advance, they'll be happy to serve a large group. On that note, I guess it wasn't clear that I was directing my post more towards Mavrik since he is looking for new destinations. |

I've honestly never stayed there as the Fiance has her cabin out there. So really cant say anything about the rooms. However, depending on when the last time you were there was, I believe those running it currently have been for the last ~8 years.. I think.
