Does anyone know of a way to change relative volume of different apps without root? Waze is much louder than Rocket Player (or, I suppose, Rocket Player is much quieter than Waze)

S7e here, came from Sony Xperia z3, which eventually wo7kd miss calls and never show them as missed which prompted me to get a new phone last year. The s7e is my second Samsung after the s4. The s4 I wasn't very durable, but I also didn't use a case.

I figure I'll skip a few gens each time and get something when I really need to adopt the new tech. The fingerprint scanner and Samsung pay have been really useful. I'm using the pay app way more then I anticipated. Also the camera has been the best I have had so far.

Yeah, that seems to be the case, especially considering the mixed reviews for the S6.

So with more S8 folks here now, anyone know how to make the G Play Music info, picture and all, show up on your screen instead of just the title when your screen is locked and you press power button? On the lock screen would be better.

Download the SoundAssistant app by Samsung on Google Play.

Enable the floating button to set the volume for each app.

On the S8 is there a setting to get quick actions on the notification pull down for Gmail. Or is that a Pixel specific feature?

Pixel 2 rumors:

Taimen:
5.99-inch 1440p OLED display
Snapdragon 835
4GB RAM
Smaller Bezels
128GB Storage option
Glass/Metal Back
Headphone jack

Walleye:
4.97-inch 1080p FHD display
Snapdragon 835
4GB RAM
64GB Storage option
Glass/Metal back (Like 2016 Pixel)
Stereo speakers
No headphone jack

Looking like the S8+ might be an OK choice.

Needed to get some data off my 6P today. After my brief time with my S8+ so far it felt like going back to a CRT after using a flat panel

I'm still in the honeymoon, but the aesthetics and screen on this thing are magnificant.

I had the same experience with my OPO. It felt ancient.

It's been 6 weeks with the S8+, and I'm still in the honeymoon phase.

interesting....you know your phones, and I know you're quite particular when it comes to phones, for you to speak this highly of a samsung product, it's gotta be pretty good.

The fingerprint sensor is in a goddamned retarded location but I think with a case on it's manageable. Camera seems really consistent but has the Samsung over saturation and lacks the HDR+ magic. I've disabled basically all of the crapware so it looks and somewhat behaves like a Pixel sofware-wise. Scrolling latency is very poor at times, but hopefully the 7.1.1 update will fix that.

My fiance's 6P was having the battery bug where it would just shut off with somewhere between 10-30% remaining so she ended up jumping on the S8 for $425ish. After playing with it awhile the fingerprint sensor is an abomination, not necessarily because of the placement but more because without a case that guides your finger to it there's no tactile way of quickly knowing where it is when you're looking for it. The rest of the phone is quite impressive, in my non professional opinion I'd say the camera is on par with 6P, though I've noticed that the quicker shutter speed has resulted in less sharpness/detail in the pictures overall.

Sure, the fingerprint sensor location could be placed a tiny bit farther from the camera, but otherwise I think it's much more preferable there than on the front or below the camera.

My right index finger naturally rests on the fingerprint sensor when I pull my phone out, so I think it's great at least for my hand size (glove size 7.0).

Fingerprint on the front is more lame than where it is on the S8, imo.

The slow mo video, hyperlapse and virtual shot are neat.

I need to learn to use pro mode.

It's not just the placement, it's how small and narrow the sensor itself is. The 6P/Pixel location is ideal.

Of course now that I want to buy two more they're backordered. No way to know if the extra $100 off will still apply after they're back in stock.

Otherwise, it's nice to have a phone with decent battery life again.

For me it's not so much it (fingerprint sensor) being on the back that bothers me, but *where* it's on the back definitely does. Lower and centered would probably be much better. I recall reading somewhere that Samsung really wanted it under the screen, but the 3rd party partner ran into a lot of issues, and so they had to slap it on the back top left - the back center had been designed with other components already.

Looking for a cheap phone with awesome battery life? The new Moto E Plus looks like a winner:

7.1 Nougat
5.5" screen (HD only)
Snapdragon 425
2GB/16GB w SD slot
5000mah battery (!)

That combo should give it ridiculous battery life. And it will apparently have metallic construction and cost around $160

Yeah the 6P location for the fingerprint sensor was great. Would've preferred it there.

Too bad it doesn't have the SD450. SD425 uses the ancient 28nm node and is surprisingly inefficient for a quad core A53.

Want to talk ancient? Sold my HTC 10 and while Im waiting for my OP5, I am using my old 2013 Moto X. I went from SD820 with QHD and 4 gigs of RAM to a 720p display, S4 pro and 2 gigs of RAM....

What say ye OT? Will I regret getting my wife the Verizon version of the S8+? Oddly enough it is $15 more expensive than the unlocked version but they've giving a $250 trade in credit vs. $200 for the unlocked.
