Honestly looks more wagon-like than I expected. Just more squared off. Kinda early generation Explorer vibes.

It does look huge. I wonder if it will have the N/A 2.5 and the 2.4DIT. That is a lot of azz to move around.

It's gigantic. Look at how it makes that Semi truck cab look tiny.

We've seen this movie before. I hope it's not this lackluster.

Thought it would look more agressive. A rounder and sporty design. It's square. Everybody was excited. A bit dissapointed.

I think people will like it. I was on the fence about getting a Forester or the Outback and was waiting till I saw it. It took less than 30 secs and I was saying "what's a Forester?". lol

It looks decent so far. I see why you had all that popcorn. I can't wait for subaru to reveal more info such as new tech and features. Will the hybrid have a one year hiatus like the forester and what does that new frame do for towing capacity

i test drove a new CVT WRX at a dealer (fairly early for the CVT, maybe 2nd or 3rd year it was out) ... felt like a rubber band, and NOT just flooring it ... pulling away from a stop at normal throttle, accelerating, etc. it was a feeling i did not like at all and would not "get used to".

our Mitsu Outlander Sport (CVT) with its brutal 168hp will chirp the tires if you aren't smooth with the pedal on takeoff. the WRX i drove was pretty sad in comparison, transmission-wise.

The tires chirp because it's FWD most of the time...

Surprised the couldn't grab a better front photo. Its almost like they switch design teams every generation. You go from smooth lines to more box-like, back to Rounded smooth lines, and now back to Box-like.

Looks to have a large unpainted rear bumper if I had to guess, the headlights also looks extraordinarily large. This car almost reminds me of the new Tacoma. Are we sure it’s not a new Toyota? Haha

The print on the wrap seems to be consistent with what the pre-production VB WRX had on it, if I recall correctly.
Excited to see what we have here.

my point was, it accelerates immediately and feels "connected".

the WRX did not, and felt like a sloppy mess.

That's a big ugly bitch. More CVT-abominations.

Curious on the next Ascent. Ditch the stupid CVT Subaru.

Clearly don't know how to drive it.

Got it. I've never driven the WRX CVT/SPT.

Currently own a 2019 Ascent. The CVT is bad to say the least... The engine is a peach/ very impressive. The quality of the build is just ok (owned 8 Subarus). If Subaru would actually listen to what the market/ core consumer wanted they would make a new boxy Ascent that looks like a Land Cruiser with no cvt and make a wagon/ outback that was not trying to be a Land cruiser and was a more capable off road athletic wagon also with no cvt with two different turbo 4 size engines offered. (or hybrid if they actually joined the 2024 norm)

i guess a CVT requires a certain skill set, likely gained by years of motorsports competition

i've had several "performance" Subarus with autos ... SVX, and wife's WRX and FXT. despite all the shortcomings of the 4HEAT, it did not feel rubber-bandy.

they may have improved the CVT since then, but given my history with Subaru quality and reliability, imma nope-out on a Subaru CVT

The front end is definitely giving off Ascent vibes, which is the all too likely result of no longer being tied to the Legacy.

Looks kinda like a divorced headlight setup to me. A lot of vertical real estate.

I'm definitely more interested if they drop the CVT, but I'm not sure what the point is in arguing about it before we know what's in there.

Can't blame you for that. I've only ever had one issue that wasn't older age/mileage related. And my extended warranty covered it to the tune of paying for the entire warranty. All of mine have been pretty solid otherwise. I HAVE had head gaskets on my '95 Legacy and my current 2006 Forester; but, have always considered that normal maintenance.

Throttle wise, the HTCVT was pretty responsive in S# mode and the SPT in S# is even better and every time I've driven one, I keep going for a clutch with the way it works/holds the "gear" ratios.
