Default Three-Way Suspension swap question, menage a toi if you will

Hi all,

quick question, probably easy for you guys that are all into the interchangeability game.

We have 3 Cars in question

02 2.5 RS Sedan with One Piece Coilovers
02 WRX Wagon Stock Suspension
04 STi Stock Suspension

I plan to take out the coilovers on the RS (and put the RS stock suspension back in) and install them on the STi.

Then I plan to install the 04 STi suspension in hte WRX Wagon and put the WRX wasgon suspension in storage.

First, will this all work. Second, will this be a decent upgrade for the wagon? I mean, the STi handles and rides way better then the wagon already, what major change will I see on it (ride height? etc)

Thanks in advance, I hope my post was clear.

Should all bolt up provided you swap the whole assemblies including the tophats. However the wagon will ride low at the rear and you won't be able to get much negative camber.

Hmm, this is exaclty the feedback I was looking for.

SO shoul dI not be installing the STi suspension in the wagon? THe main reason Id change it this way is that Im getting the STi suspension for free....but if it is going to be more headaches then it is worth.....

Will I be able to align it to factory specs? How much lower in teh back are we talking, I dont want to look like a lowered Jetta III :P

Thanks!

You could always find a set of wagon-specific springs to put on the STi struts. It won't quite be free anymore, but that might bump the rear height back up a bit and give you a better looking wheel gap.

Oh, its "menage a trois" by the way

The springs cause the rear height issues, but it's the struts that affect the camber. You'll get within factory alignment spec, but the spec is so wide it's not saying much - if you want any kind of decently sporty camber settings you'll need additional bolts and/or camber plates. It's not necessarily a bad way to go - Myles didn't mention it but with RaceComp's plates you would get a bit of front drop to even out the sedan springs in the rear. Have a read through the 'Wagon suspensions - read and post your setups' thread.

Will do, thanks for teh advice.

Is the (lack of) negative camber problem in the front or the back? If I got new tophats that had camber adjustment for teh front,I wonder how close to level the car would be.

Ill check out that thread now, thanks again.
