So someone help me, what's all th bg, bc, gg, gc and every other letter combination mean? If got a 2001 outback , base line w/ the winter package and I'm trying to modify it to how ever I want. Just trying to do some homework and figure everything out that I can. Mines a 2.5l with an automatic. I guess I should have done this before and went for an impreza vs an outback. Any help would be great, thanks all.

Oops, I have a bh. So any front will work then if I have the whole strut, spring and tophat.

Ok another question, since my rear suspension is different, can I swap the rear sub-frame with something better that's a direct bolt up? It's not easy finding the rear parts. Mines stock and just about wore out, time for modifying.

So from this whole thread I've figured out I have a third generation and from all these posts every either has a first or second gen. So what gives. I will figure something out, even if I have to custom make my own rear suspension.

I don't know for sure, but it seems to me that suspension parts from an '08 or newer Impreza model would work without too much difficulty. I know the Forester guys use multilink STi rear suspension bits on their cars...

My end goal, not for sure. This is my first ever import and I just want to see how far I can go. For looking at the pics online of the 08+ impreza and foresters, the third gen outbacks have different length lateral bars and a shock vs strut.
The car is due to a bushing change and I would like urathane over rubber ones. I like taking corners fast. The second and thirds rear body looks the same that's why I asked about swapping out rear subs to the second if the mounts match up. I just made the start of a cold air kit the other night and put it on. Next plan is tune up, then exhaust. From there I'm looking at suspension and engine. Thanks for the help and I will keep digging and learn more. |

well to start with you have a 3rd gen legacy. the only other subaru's that share your rear setup are the 09+ foresters, 08+ impreza's. they are not exactly the same as the 2000-04 legacy's use a narrower rear lower control arm, so if you get anything other than 00-04 suspension you'll need to shave down the lower mounting point. Your best bet is to get a suspension that's made for your car. you have quite a few options in fact. You have the fattest Subaru made, so trying to use srings/struts from another car will not work to well.

So having a fat ass means I can take corners faster right? Just kidding. Well I'm all ears. Point me to the right direction of who makes parts for my car.

I've got an 03 outback from what I've found you can get jdm b4 bilstine for around 500$ on eBay they will be used but jdm parts are normally low mileage, h&r makes one or two lowering spring kits if you just want to lower your stance. Best bet to really lower a bh chassis is to use be suspension parts there are a few companies that make full coil over kits I know tein, kw, super stance, bw,k sport, d2racing, xyz sport, yellow dps... You get the picture. Keep in mind if you're wanting a coil over kit plan on spending atleast a grand on the cheapest one.

97 what? Legacy? 96-99 legacy/outback parts are interchangeable although outback is higher. all subies have the same top mount holes in body and bottom strut mount to spindle from 95-05 wrx/legacy/forester/outback/impreza/wrx. thats why people call them lego cars. ex; my 95 legacy L wagon has 03 wrx suspension/lowering springs, direct bolt in if you take everything from top to bottom mounts, except the brake line mount bracket on strut.

Hey guys, I can get a killer deal on Ksport coilovers that came out of an 02 legacy, anyone know if they will fit into an 03 WRX wagon? I know Subarus are like legos but I wanna make sure so I don't buy anything that won't fit.

Front will work, but in 2000 the Legacy's all went to a multilink rear setup.

I want to thank you guys for all the info contained in this thread. It's been awhile since there's been any posts, but I used all the info to get my 1999 Legacy SUS sitting pretty on 2005 WRX suspension and 2007 WRX wheels. So thanks again for this thread!!!

1997 legacy gt wagon suspension upgrades
I have a 97 LGT wagon (with blown struts) and I have a buddy that has Tien H springs on 2005 wrx struts I know that the only year that my legacy is capable of swapping suspension into is 02-03 wrx. he said the struts would work on a bug eye which is the 02-03. Is this true?

Yes, it will work. 02-07 WRX suspensions are all compatible. Also, I have a 97 outback limited with 04 wrx struts and Tein springs, all I did was swap the top hats and then it was a simple strut replacement. Sent from my iPhone using NASIOC |
