Default saturday night beater cheap car challenge

so let's say your car broke down and you only had up to $1500 cash on hand to buy a beater...if you go to your local craigslist what's the best you can come up with? I suppose FB marketplace is fine as well.

obviously you never get to check all the boxes, but let's just say it's something to get you to work until things get better.

i'll be looking. brb lol...

Top hit from the CL search
https://dallas.craigslist.org/dal/ct...263265328.html

Problem is, when you search that low a price you got these ******* dealers setting their prices that low and mentioning "XXX Down!" to get into the filter.

Annoying.

However, I think I'd be okay with that choice.

https://dallas.craigslist.org/dal/ct...263198700.html

Another one.

Race car trailer puller. Duct tape and bed liner and those rockers become just like factory.

- It's Covid-free! I've been so lazy that no one has been in the car for months, so no need to worry about a Purell-washdown!
- New(ish) tires! We already drove over all the sharp objects with the old tires, so you get new tires, AND no more sharp objects in the road! Bonus!
- Remote locks! One-of-a-kind Corolla with remote locks!
- Stuff works! Radio? Yes! AC? You betcha! Heat? HOT! Lights? Has them!
- Buy now and get a full tank of gas!

The Bad:
- Not gonna lie, it needs valve seals. It burns oil right now, completely drivable, but will need new seals (or oil every so often).
- Battery is old. I have it on a charger, but a cheap battery would probably be needed. Heck, I'll go out and get a new one, just for you! So never mind!

The Ugly:
- It has some dings and dents, you can see them if you play eye-spy with the pictures. But don't let that stop you! Add some of your own!
- The paint is old, but so is the car, so what else is new?

Bottom line, it's a decent car and has a lot of life still. I want someone to get a little bit more use out of it before it goes off to car heaven, where tires never go flat and fuel is always full.

Cash or PayPal only, I will not ship or deliver (I don't have the means).
$1000 or best offer, first-come-first-serve.
Happy New Year!

Oh man the rust belt I feel sorry for any car you'd have to buy for 1500.

I bought a Civic several years ago (when I lived in Northwest Indiana) for about 2 grand and all of the replaceable suspension bits needed replacement within a year.

Why not put a $500 minimum amount? Or posted by owner only?

It's so weird that cars in the early 2000s are now, technically, ****ing old.

Ugh.

Although I suppose some credit goes to the style, because they don't "look" old which is a big part of it.

i have a beat to hell 99 outback...240k miles or so..speedo and odo don't always work but if the battery is good she starts right up and goes... I daily an 04 grand caravan for a work truck... a bit rusty but runs good and drives fine. suspension is a little rattly, but whatever...has power everything , heat and ac works.

wife drives an 08 town and country. It's in good shape, couple small rust spots, full options , PAID OFF... so we're an older car driving kinda family. It's not always the best or coolest but it works out fine and we like not having tons of money sunk into cars at this time. Don't care about looking cool..as i always say "nothing i can afford is cool"

one day i'll get another shot at a 94 turbo mr2 but that's another thread

my lil brother just did his 4th or so loan rollover.

That's a scam. Cheap cars online now are a huge breeding ground for scammers. Go ahead and email them, they will ask for you to take a deposit or some crap like that then have you wire them money back. Here's an ad from 7 months ago which is a clear scam and has the same exact photo lol. https://offerup.com/item/detail/886634645/

I am selling a 2000 Nissan Altima. It was in a fender bender a couple months ago. Things you should know is that the hood is bent and doesn't close properly (because of the accident), and there is a code (engine too lean) that has been on since I bought it. The battery seems to discharge after a couple days after a jump, so I think the battery is needs to be replaced.

If you can fix the battery/electrical problem, it runs pretty good. If you bring a pair of jumper cables we can try and see it run. I am deciding to sell the car for cheap as opposed to junking it because I think it can benefit someone who wants to fix it. If can fix the hood and the battery/electrical issue then by all means take a look.

Clean title
Selling "as is"

This Camry but its in a rough little town and might have had a rough life.

https://albuquerque.craigslist.org/c...251022670.html

Or this accord which is what Id likely choose as i owned one of these a long time ago:
https://albuquerque.craigslist.org/c...262993930.html

Wait a minute, I didnt know they made accord coupes back then.Wtf.Sucks that it is automatic or I might want it

Edit:I hadnt noticed the salvage title on the accord but then again at that age small body damage could have caused that.

Around here Craigslist is mostly full of listings from used car lots, have to go to Facebook Marketplace for anything under $2k.

My 93 Impreza was on craiglist last January though, got it for $1500 after taxes/reg.

Buying today I would try to find a Forester in the price range the OP posted. Probably a couple out there, I could easily DIY any repairs needed.
