Its Halo 2 Lan Party level trolling (from all sides) and im all for it, but at the same time -

I do get "Some" Boxer noises with a Catback but its not like some 05' Unequal Length - Like what we know, certainly better than a FA20. Jpipe avail (but only from one company), would need to wait for alpha tune options. Just ordered wheels that will be here today I hope, for a Big brake kit. Grabbed 255/40s for slight confidence on these county roads. Speaker sys (sub-par) - Will need to replace.
Trans - Better than the last, Had a oem short-throw - already changed to a Billetworkz short throw, IAG trans mount, Perrin Pitch stop, Nameless front sway, ETS Intake (With Box), Overall Driving - An improvement when comparing a 2017 WRX with similar mods.

Little things that bother me? - Yea.. because its not an RS3 lol, But absolutely do I feel like they are trying to be friendlier to new customers? Yupp.. But if they wanted that, they would have tried on the interior (A smidge, like they try on the Forester Sport) and made sure it wasn't a car that looked old after a certain time. 09 LGT was the sweet spot for me as far as looks, comfort and performance. Could call this car a modern- LGT as far as sizing. 2022 Legacy is a damn boat -But a comfy one at that.

Honestly, I'm still looking forward to LP Aventure to release a lift(spacer kit I know) for the '22. Would make me feel some type of way.

Have you thought about buying painted exterior pieces to make it look normal?

I saw a COBB teaser for the 2022 WRX. Rumor was 280/280 for a mild OTS and it should be available just in time for Christmas!

I was actually waiting to see if like a company would be smart enough to produce a body kit using the pre-drilled holes used for the cladding, but it doesn't look like its on the horizon yet. Most places in my area have quoted 2500-3500 to get things painted (Sand away the golf-texture). But being a previous Estimator, the thought of having to repaint the pieces Id have to replace without getting it covered under insurance, made spending the 3500 not sound so great. Thats a new .338 Lapua paired with a nice Nightforce optic!

So. speaking as an owner of a 22 WRX GT in Sapphire Blue, I think many people here are dismissing this car based on internet pictures alone.
The car looks very different in person.

This is my 4th WRX and I can tell you, this car is at least as good as or better than the previous generation in all other aspects.

The SPT is actually very good, for a CVT. Especially using the paddle shifters, it mimics a MT pretty well.

While it has the same HP as last gen, the Torque is much more usable and makes the car more fun and peppy, and doesn't have that annoying torque dip and 2k RPMs like the previous one did.

A lot of the criticism I see is based on trying to compare this WRX to the previous STI, which can't be done.

The target demographic is not the enthusiast members on this forum for the WRX. That would have been for the STI.
There are far too few of you who would buy the car to justify them making it for you.
Either people will buy the base model and modify the crap out of it or start with an STI, but nobody is getting a track car out-of-the-box with a WRX.

It's not fair to compare this car to the STI as it was never intended to be one. It's not supposed to be a track car. It's meant to be a sporty sedan that can also be a family car.

I absolutely agree that the unpainted plastic is bad, but it really doesn't look as bad on darker colors.

On my Sapphire blue, the cladding isn't as noticeable in person.
My gut feeling says that when the refresh for this car happens, there will be either a painted option or gloss black like the concept.
My preference would be gloss black.

The car is too new for the aftermarket to develop many parts for it yet, but they are starting to trickle out.

By this time next year, there will probably be a lot more options.

Bottom line is, don't bash this car if you haven't driven one. Give it a chance if you are really serious about owning one.

Paying nearly 45k for a CVT (or any price point really) is a nope. The looks are secondary IMHO.

I can't get past the looks, and no, you are wrong it's still ugly in person. I have now seen three, White, Sapphire Blue and Black. Showed the Sapphire Blue to my old man, in a home depot parking lot, and he also asked why are the rear lights so squished. He also commented on the rear bumper's protrusion. Then he went on to tell me that I never should have sold the STi.

I would never buy car where I couldn't turn around and say "damn that car looks gorgeous." I certainly did that with my 2005 STi, it was a garage queen, as the garage would open I'd see like a Halo around the car.

No feeling like that here... Sorry

Shiz, the Civic Si looks better.

I was initially interested in the 02 WRX, the wagon variant; it feels important to mention what worked for me at the time; I did not like the USDM 2.5RS; I was driving a 300RWHP sub 3,000lb HEAVILY modified fox Mustang, I had zero wife and kids, so when I test drove a 2.5RS, the experience was "meh" to say the least; a "vanilla" early-mid 90's civic had a significantly better chassis & driving dynamics, this coming from a guy who HATES FWD; but everything is contextual.

Come 07, I've got a wife, we're planning to have two kids, I also had crotch rockets & other bikes for fun, so when I test drove an 08 FXT I was intrigued, did some research & found that WRX wagon stuff would "lego" it's way into the FXT & I was sold on a boxy lowered wagon, but wound up in a leftover 06 WRX wagon somewhere else because the dealer wouldn't deal on the FXT (I'm a cheap SOB, I think more people need to be cheap SOBs).
I loved that car for what it was; acceptable out of the box, lightweight (for the time), very mod-able, & lego-status meant that STi bits would swap in with ease, not to mention the aftermarket support. I started looking for a replacement before it hit my "drop it" window, I didn't care for the lack of wagon options and lack of tow rating of the hatch that was only available up until 2014, and obviously the 2015 sedan wasn't worth moving to based on my criteria; my 06 was modified with "reasonable" maintenance at that point (low mileage, "easy" driving as I hadn't put a huge turbo or painful clutch in it) and FAR MORE capable with regards to cargo space, passenger space & the tow rating, as minimal as it was, was important to me. So I kept it, until 2019 when I decided that working on it every weekend, granted for arguably minimal items, but 4hrs of devotion, wasn't worth it based on my available free time (married, two kids, involved in my kids extra curriculars).
IF Subaru offered the Levorg at that point, I might have gone for it; CTS-V wagons with 6mt were as rare as hens teeth, and I still, to this day, would prefer a wagon over a hatch , and especially a sedan.

This is very important; my IS350 (admittedly, F-sport RWD, shipped from Texas to NE, was SIGNIFICANTLY better value that anything Subaru has EVER offered, even for less money, at least what I paid vs. Subaru MSRP).

I honestly do not understand why anyone sticks with/buys Subaru outside of just drinking the marketing kool-aid; I have to assume brand loyalty/ignorance dictates their purchase.

all I can say is, Yikes (granted, we were willing to pay ~50k for a hybrid that utilized an e-cvt, however it was a very different use case - economy and performance are not the same goals.

I knew my Fox mustang was ugly for the time; I didn't care because
1.) it was lightweight (for the time)
2.) was cheap (for the time)
3.) was moddable (again, for the time)

The problem with the WRX is it has been both a very utilitarian fun/drivers car/performance bargain for the time as well as being a "value" purchase for the normies.
It is no longer ANY of those things.
An ecoboost Mustang or base Camaro are cheaper performance; corolla/civic is/are a better "economy" options

What does the WRX offer that the competition doesn't?

With regards to the "GT" model, I'm fairly certain most of us are dismissing it based on MSRP & the performance/luxury you get for the money; because a Lexus IS is cheaper/similar money, quicker, faster, more efficient, has better tech (really low bar set by Lexus) and has a lower MSRP than a WRX GT.

I know Subaru is working with Toyota, but they both need to step up their tech game if they want to keep up with or surpass the industry; Toyota can handle the complacency far longer than Subaru can.

Aeroflow does do flare paint matching and so do a few other shops (Not advertised as well), but I was basically looking for someone to mold completely new flares, something along the lines of an S209, for a slightly wider set up (an inch or so flaring) -To make 9.5 38mm to look flush. Waiting games

Haven't driven one yet, I might stop by my local dealer and take one for a spin soon. I will say I like the overall shape and look of the car its very close to the Viziv, I just think it would look so much better if they painted the whole car.

Well painting the entire car isn't in the budget this time around, so you'll have to make due.

It is entirely fair to compare this car to the STI. The GT costs more than the previous gen's STI and can't sniff its jock as a driver's car.

Agreed. I've seen WRB, white, and the dark gray in-person. The lighter colors look very bad but the dark ones disguise the plastic well and you just see the car's lines, which are cleaner than the VA's.

Ex-Fox body Mustang owner here. Ohh the joys:

SubFrame connectors
Ford MotorSport springs
Front Strut Tower bar
MAC headers
MAC exhaust
Hurst Shifter
K&N Filter
Rear Shock Tower bar
Dunlop SP Sport M2 tires
Before ECU tuning there was advance timing

The car was a handling machine... I often look at 1993 Cobra listings, with the 5 lugs and rear disc brakes. I was in love with the Coral Green Cobra's.

Ohh to reminisce.

Love love the 86 Mustang GT. Last carbed model if I recall. Tuning was a weekend and a new cam and carb. Headers and you had a real screamer.

Back in those days you created an entirely new engine to change it. IF you did not like how your engine breathed you put on a new cam or intake or even heads. You could change the same engine from a low rpm torque monster to a high rpm screamer in one weekend. Cam and Heads defined the engines attitude. It was a great time to be an enthusiast.

Then this new breed of tuners came about who tried to do the same with a lap top. They were marginally successful. While some tweaking is fine and it did in fact work, the engines personality (read as cam profile(s)) stayed the same. An Integra GSR was fairly high strung from the factory. The tune may have give you 8HP more at most. Nothing really noticeable.

I think tuning really hit its stride when turbos became more widespread. Then the ECU could bypass more and more safety settings and the price per HP was getting back to what a CAM use to cost.

Maybe it has come full circle. I think both ways of tuning have merit. I prefer the more mechanical one, but I am also comfortable with the laptop model to an extent. They both have uses.

My local dealer has new unsold inventory for the first time in 2 years.. 20 cars, including 1 WRX. I'm curious to test drive one.. but I'd never buy one. The starting MSRP is $8k more than the STI I bought new.

I don't care if it's ugly, I want a car that is like my current 06 WRX. AWD, manual tranny, good power, fine handling, not too damn crazy expensive so I can upgrade what I want when I want in the future.

It's an extremely small segment.

They’re even worse in person, which I didn’t think was possible. They’re all over the place here. Awful.
