Took off the Hawk Street Race and went to Hawk HP+ when I swapped to my winter wheels on Friday.

The pads on one side were fine, plenty of meat left. The pads on the other side were completely gone. Three of the four pads on that side had around 1mm of meat left. It was kind of ridiculous. All four rotors also lost about 1mm of metal on both sides where the pads contacted the disc.

Only had them on for around 7 months, give or take. Would not buy again. I was happy with the HP+ on my Spec.B, so hopefully they will be good on my WRX.

The HP+ are much more rotor friendly than the DTC-30/streetrace compound.

Hello, gents.

Two days ago I replaced my stock rotors to the Stoptech slotted rotors and my stock pads to the Hawk Performance Ceramic pads. I did some driving and stopping to kinda get them settled in. Now this is the very first time I replaced brake stuff myself and I'm certain that I placed the pads correctly. My issue is whenever I turn right even when I'm not stepping on the brake is makes a really loud squeaking noise. It also squeaks when I go over little bumps on the road. I've tried filing the thin metal pieces where the pads go because those were rubbing but that didn't help. Hopefully someone can help.

Thanks.

Did you use any grease on back of pads and those metal shims? Or around the "ears" of the pads(tabs on top and bottom that fit into caliper).

I have the Hawk Yellow Ceramic Pads & they still squeak after I put Brake Quiet on.
I'm running them with stock rotors though.

No I did not. I'm actually doing that today after work. Hopefully it fixes the issue.

I can't seem to find this diagnostic connector for triggering the ABS pump after bleeding

B82

anyone got any hints?

EDIT: I'm not finding anything about B82 in the bulkhead wiring diagram from the FSM, maybe this procedure for triggering the ABS pump doesn't work for the VA?

On the VA both the ABS and VDC can be bled. Only half of the unit is flushed without the service mode. Both of these require the Subaru Select Monitor, there is no longer a jumper. The service manual covers both of these and lists them in the brake bleed section.

Out of curiosity, did the master cylinder run very low, or did you do some extensive brake upgrades? Otherwise, it may not be necessary to bleed the ABS and VDC.

Just being thorough. I haven't done it yet.

Being thorough is good! Unless the master cylinder is running dry or you're otherwise introducing excessive air into the system, I doubt you'll need to worry about bleeding the ABS or VDC units. Even if you're swapping calipers all around you should likely be ok.

My apologies if this isn’t the right place since this seems to be mostly talk about pads, but I was wondering if the effect to brake bias is known when switching from stock 2015 wrx brakes to 08-14 Sti brakes (calipers and rotors).
If there is an effect, could it be characterized as good/bad based on what we know of the car and how manufacturers set up normal cars (maybe front bias to lock up the fronts first or something)?

has anyone put in a STI master cylinder and brake booster? I am fed up with the over-boosted mushy pedal feel at the top of the pedal travel (its not air in the system). especially once i realized how much i'm missing out after test driving a BRZ which has a nice firm pedal by comparison...

From what I can gather the 2015+ wrx and sti have the exact same booster and MC.

Before 2015 the STI boosters had less assist.

Not sure if a GD MC will go on a newer car, but best combination for a firmer pedal with less travel would be an 08-14 sti booster and a 1 1/16 MC.

you're right, they have the same part number for the booster, master cylinder, and vacuum pump. ugh
