Two sightings, white WRX on Kimball, blue RS on Oakton...
Both within ten minutes of each other. I bonded for a few brief seconds with the cat in the blue RS. The WRX owner, whoever it was, can wonder no longer why that cyclist in full team festoonery was waving and screaming "Dude!"

I'm trying to have everything show up: engine and tranny mounts are the final bits I'm waiting for. It's starting to not look good for the group buy that Sugar had going. Might just buy a set, and sell the GB ones when and if they ever show up.
The silencer removal will be an investigative step toward an intake exploration. Did you order your Golds yet, Andrew? Funny, my wife drove the car on Sunday, and came home saying "I love it!" She especially digs the sound of the Stromung. I'm still considering stiffer springs for the rear, because of the wagon's extra weight back there. Might make a perfect setup even more so. I'd do something like a 225. Dave is waiting to see what Jamie Drummond thinks. Kevin |

Kevin,
Are you nuts? You have been all over the place extolling the greatness of your set-up and now you want to change it? You are fickle! |

yeah but Robert, what seems perfect to us.. may not be to him. HE wants it perfect (which IMHO it is pretty much 98-99% there..just seemed like it needed something else for the rear end..and i DO tend to agree with Kevin that a stiffer spring would do it becuase of the glass weight and extra steel)
anyhow If you are still getting it dialed in..i don't even want to see it when it is dialed in. Should be amazing |

That's exactly what I'm thinking. The DMS is fantastic, but I think there's that last 10th available. As long as you're going for it, you might as well make it absolutely perfect.
Besides, you have air tools now, so popping the tops off the rears would be a piece of cake! My musings are based on the wagon's weight distribution, which is something approaching 50/50. This argues for a spring of equal stiffness on each corner vs. the traditional softer spring in the rear, because sedans have less weight back there. The Tein setup for the wagon actually has a stiffer spring for the rear, as we both know from experience. It was something that I thought about doing from the start, and still might decide against once it's on. But I'm basing this on a fairly simple thing, actually. When I go over a short, sharp bump, there's a little extra hop or two from the rear, that you don't get from the front. This occurs at any varying setting option. I can dial it out by firming up the damping, so dependent upon what Dave Clark thinks, I might just leave it alone. It's not a real problem, but it's not 100 percent there, which is what I crave. You know I'm compulsive, rao! Kevin |

Kevin,
1. It's your car - do what you want with it 2. I don't have air tools - the compressor I got was not strong enough and I just said to hell with it , but we can still figure a way to do a top hat swap - I've done it before. Does the DMS have any way to grab the strut shaft - I don't remember, but if it's real rally stuff I bet it does. 3. I'm no rocket scientist, but an extra hop or to would indicate under damping which you should be able to fix in a few seconds. Stiffer springs would cause even more hops. I think the damping is the key not the spring rates, but I will leave the rocket science to others. [This message has been edited by rao (edited April 03, 2001).] |

Rao, I think you should join the rocket scientists and get yourself a DMS to play with as well. Not to mention the WRX that goes so well with it. And considering that you have kids to shoehorn in, you should get the WAGON.

Andrew - who can afford that DMS stuff? - I would need AT LEAST the 60's
I may have to look into that, though I hear Subarus are too delicate to run at the track |
