![]() The pictures show a couple of them cracked. When I pulled them out of the wash they completely fell apart between rings 1-2 and 3-4. Never smoked or had any feedback knock, or any other issues with logs. It was tuned here locally, and they did all the work. Unfortunately, I have had the car sitting for almost a year since the work was done when the car caught fire (due to blowby and crankcase pressure causing valve cover gaskets to leak oil on exhaust). If you want more info feel free to PM me. I'm pissed as this is all tune related. Compression was good on a all 4 before E85 install (according to them).

![]() Did the rings survive? Are you able to measure the ring end-gaps?

Saddest part. This engine only has 43k miles, never missed a beat and didn't smoke, and no white crap on oil cap. Bearings looked good with even wear with no scarring. I just about gave up on Subie, but threw a pile of money at her, she will get a heart transplant and hopefully live a better life. ![]() Last edited by 4bang4now; 07-26-2020 at 02:29 AM. |

The closed deck is my new one, that thing is a whole different animal. Closed Deck Pinned mains w/ line hone New Nitrated Crank Callies Ultra Enforcer I beam Rods CP Pistons Upgraded coated Rings Clevite bearings 1/2" Head studs rolled thread not tapped for extra strength in the block 12mm oil pump KillerB Pickup and baffle Full timing set with gates Racing belt GSC S2 cams (272s) Beehive Springs w/ Titanium retainers GSC 32mm Intake valves GSC 36mm Exhaust (Super Alloy) GSC Valve guides Pocket ported Exhaust +flowbench tested Funny enough I ran out of funds to upgrade the fuel and turbo for this setup. So I'll have to run the setup I previously had until I get more $$$ to really push this thing. Totally freaking lame. The current setup is built by the same guy/shop that built the longblock in Kozmics record holding 1/8 mile car ![]() Kozmic Motorsports in Houston will do the break in tune as well as the final. ![]() So many people say they have the issue, and if you get it tuned it brings down the chances of ringland failure. And the tune shop that did it said the same. But of course the issue is still possible. So does anyone have anything to say about that as far as getting the tune done and having less of a chance of failure happening ?

![]() 330whp on a Mustang Dyno seems a bit over what you should have with a safe tune. With similar mods and the addition of a catted downpipe and Killer Bee EL header my tuner would only "allow" 340whp on a Dynojet at 21#s of boost. I've added a Blouch 20G XTR and an EWG since then. I was offered a safe tune and a "order your short block and oil pump/cooler now" tune. I chose the safe tune and now I'm at 390whp and 22#s. I wish you luck with your build and tune.

![]() Was the whole setup stock before going to this tuner?
OR were the mods on there and this was the jump to E85? If the mods were on there first, then you don't really know when the ringlands broke ( although the breaks in your pics do look pretty clean - implying the breaks are not old ) Honestly, either way, if a tuner turned to me said they were pushing 22psi on my *stock turbo and internals* I would have just immediately taken the car to a more reputable shop and told the original tuner to pay for a new engine. That said, I have seen stock engines with aftermarket up/down pipes reach ~300whp @ 18psi on pump gas with a decent tune. With your list of mods on the stock turbo and internals you should have been hitting 330~350whp at around 18~19psi. So the tuner was getting some pretty big red flags that something was going down with your engine during the whole tune process. Whether they honestly missed that, or just pushed it and expected you not to figure it out, that is for a lawyer to figure out. |
