Default When will Subaru add direct injection to the Impreza?

I know this is pure speculation, but I'm curious to hear any thoughts regarding this.

Not sure but I wish they added it to there new impreza, as it should gain them more mpg. Might end up being a mid model change. It's nice for non sport cars for the mpg. However wrx and sti versions might be a little annoying if the owner decided to upgrade the injectors.

I'm not overly concerned with it. I don't think DI is great for a gas engine in the long term. In fact it's the whole reason I wouldn't consider a VW/Audi with the 2.0T in it. Check out the vortex for some nasty pictures of what happens to the intake part of the engine without fuel/detergents washing over them. It's not good.

Im ok with not having it on the car. im sure to keep the car price competitive was the contributing factor.

but with the new engine it would seem that this would be the perfect time to integrate it.

Probably not anytime soon. They are still working out the direct injection with the new BRZ and the next generation WRX/STI is under development.

The Impreza model is already 'new', and Direct Injection was done in conjunction with Toyota, the clue will be if the new WRX/STI uses direct injection. If not, don't count on any other models getting it soon.

It's most likely a cost thing, aimed at the more performance-minded vehicles Subaru has:

Also, the new Forester is going to have a DIT model as well, so Subaru does have direct injection models, albeit for turbo versions

See the Legacy DIT and the soon-to-be released Forester XT with DIT, and I believe these are Subaru's own DI systems, not Toyota's

The FA20 is Direct Injection, it's also Port Injection. It uses Toyota's D4-S injection system. So the intake valves do get washed. Subaru also makes their own FA20 Turbo Direct Injection engine, but it uses Subaru's own Direct Injection system.

I also own a 2010 GTI. If I plan to keep it. I will have to have the intake removed and valves cleaned around 40,000 miles.

The FB25 was designed for DI in mind so I assume the FB20 is similar. I think we will see DI added in a few years.

"The FB25 makes the same 170 hp as the EJ, but torque is up 4 lb-ft to 174. A gain of 4 lb-ft isn’t the only reason Subaru redesigned the engine. The new four is slightly more efficient—EPA ratings for our four-speed-automatic test car jump 1 mpg in each test to 21 city and 27 highway—saves weight, and paves the way for the future adoption of direct injection"
