I ended up going with the 4:56 gears. I picked my Jeep up Thursday from the shop. I did not know about gear break in. I had to keep it under 60 and stop every 20 miles to let the differential cool down. It took me forever to get home. At first I was wishing I had done the 4:10 gears. The rpms seemed kind of high on the freeway . I took the Jeep up to the woods on Saturday. Nothing to crazy but I tried a couple of obstacles. I love the way Jeep drives off road now. The Truetracs work great and engine seems to be in the fat part of the torque curve when I need power.

If you haven't changed the gear oil in the diffs yet, do it. It should be done after a few hundred miles. It's also a good idea to drive in reverse for a few miles before changing the gear oil. If you're super particular, pull the diff covers off and check the gear pattern. As someone who's installed numerous gear sets, I personally wouldn't trust many people to set up my gears. Lubelockers.Get them.

Added to the above, I meant I wouldn't trust many people to set up my gears without checking their work to make sure it was done properly.

The gear manufacturer, Yukon, says to wait until they have 500 miles on them. That will take me awhile. I don't even drive 5 miles a day.

The trail signs get stolen a lot according to the guy at the front last time I was there. They need to figure out something because I won't be going back until they fix the problem. It's super ****ing annoying not being able to find or stay on a trail.

I'll be home on Friday and can finally start sharing pictures from my trip. It's too damn hard to do from my phone.

Not sure why they don't just label trees the actual trails so you know what you are on. It is super annoying.

so decided to shorten the long side of my dana 60. it was stupid wide and the spring perches were to wide and would make me need to make 6" frame extensions on each side to make it work. So cutting off 5" off one side and will get a custom axle shaft made

noting like cutting the C off. some thick ass axle tubes.

then beat the inner part out so i can slip it over the axle.

off the axle i used my portaband, then to make that inner slice a sawzaw. then i decked the rear surface flat to git rid of the weld with my mill. all in all about an hour or so of work.

now trying to figure out R&P rations for the axles.

Spotted driving north on I-25 last night:

Jeep Cherokee 2 door, matte black paint, terrible, dim aftermarket tail lights. That part isn't interesting. What is is that it appeared to be on full length 1 ton axles or the like, with what had to be at least 37"s if not 40"s. It was kind of comical looking.

I find fullsize axles under Jeeps kinda hideous too.

I was out running some errands today and happened by my Toyota dealer. They had a couple '16 Tacomas out front so I stopped to check them out. A sales-vulture came out to see what I was up to. He said they had one of the Desert Sand Mica doublecabs getting prepped. I have to say, I really am starting to like that color. I got to see the interior up close too. I live that a lot better than the last gens by far. It was pretty much like this one.

Full Width is function over form, deal with it. I plan on 42's on 2-3" of lift on full width 1 tons. It's for people who are want the maximum crawling ability and durability.
