Default Radiator Fan Staying On

I just took a drive. Well i noticed my lights were dimming at the stop lights. When i get home, i notice my radiator fan is running at idle. I let the car idle for 5 minutes and the fan was still on. Its about 32 degrees outside. I turned off the car and the fan turned off with it. I am curious why its doing this though? The headlights and interior lights dimming, is very annoying. I also believe this is probabley hurting my motor because it will run the coolant a little too cold. Is this a thermostat issue in the coolant lines? Is there a sensor in the fan itself perhaps? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Have your defroster on? Fans will run/cycle with your defroster on. If not...

Any CEL?

The car could be throwing itself into safe mode due to a possible failure within the coolant temperature sensor circuit. Make sure it is plugged in.

I forgot to add, the fans come on after i drive the car. It Doesnt come on right away when i start the car. Then it stays on, until i turn the car off. Also, i have heat in the car. My coolant guage is well below the middle line. Is that normal? Ever since i have had the car, its been that way.

Im starting to have the same problem and i cant figure out why my fans are staying on after car is driven and engine temp is at operating temp. im gonna hook up my scanner to it and see how low the temperature drops.

Plug in a gauge that will show the exact temperature the fans turn on at. Then go from there.

I believe they should turn on at 90C.

I think the OP thought you meant the defroster button...

Do you have the AC set to either of the window defrost settings? (mixed window/floor or just window?) This will cause your condition.

ok so i drove the car home from work and both fans were on and i hooked up my scanner, it showed that the temp. was at 203 Fahrenheit. while the fan was still on i kept my eyes on the scanner to see how fast the temp. was dropping, i noticed that it took forever for the temp. to drop. after a minute or so it finally got down to 201 but after 2 mins it was still at 201. i turned the car off for about 30 mins and car cooled down to about 177 and the fan was off.

seems like i may have a bad ect or wiring resistance feed back to ecm.

Sorry for reviving this thread, but I'm having the same issues. Did you ever figure out a solution?

Thanks!

i face similar issue. when fan starts on idle at 90 degrees it stays on forever. when i check the ect it is around 92-93 but not going down it's stable. i think it it would not be the ect sensor since when i touch the gas a little bit for a short period temp. goes down and fan stops below 90.
is this normal?
