ej205 spun rod bearing. Need Advice
So my original ej205 in my 2005 wrx dropped a valve when the timing belt slipped. I then bought another ej205 long block that was said to have only 24,500 miles on it. I added larger 650 dw injectors, blouch 16gxt, grimmspeed EBCS, and walbro fuel pump. I ran rotella t6 in it since i had installed the motor. I had it open source tuned and it was running great. One night about a month later i was on my way to a haunted house and started to get into boost when it started knocking. Still ran but sure sounds like a spun rod bearing. I now have 2 ej205 motors and am looking to rebuild one. I want a reliable car that can handle the current power setup. Not really looking to do a hybrid setup or anything. I was thinking maybe some sti rods, arp rod bolts, and new bearings. I currently am tuned on 93 octane at 21 psi. not really looking for much more power, maybe a turbo inlet and tgv deletes. Any suggestions are welcome! Don't want to have the same thing happen anytime soon.
Current setup: 3 in. Invidia down pipe w/ high flow cat Invidia up-pipe Blitz Nur-spec R catback SPT short ram intake STI TMIC DW 650's Walbro fuel pump Blouch 16gxt Grimmspeed EBCS Open Source Tune Stock 5 speed tranny

If you want to keep that turbo you're good to go with what you have. At that power level it's all in the proper tune.
For extra insurance against so-so tune you can put in some forged pistons but then if you want reliability you have to get some oversized ones and get a proper bore to set proper PTW clearances, etc. Otherwise there is a possibility that you will slap and burn oil. so just rebuild it with stock internals with proper oil clearances and stop by PnL for some Junior tune |

Thanks for the advice! Should I atleast go with different bearings? Ive heard good things about king bearings. And maybe arp rod bolts?

Nah, don't waste your money on better bearings or arp bolts with 16g
Clevite 77's will be perfectly fine just set the proper clearances and they will perform as good as any other bearing. |
