wow guys, no need to be up in arms about our cars.
someone asked a question, and we're answering; you don't have to tell us that we're spoiled. |

Damn, I didn't realize how many of you kids have WRX''s n STi's. If I had a car like that when I was your age, I would have died for sure. In HS I went through 2 beaters then my dad got me a gay Protege. I smashed in that thing, rallyin, lawn jobs, jumpin, you name it. Almost died in it on a few occasions. If I would have had some torque and AWD it would have been over.
You guys be responsible with those Subies. It only takes one wrong judgment and you'll end up in a casket like my sister did at 16. Lost it around a corner and over-corrected into a tree. You don't want to do that to your family or anyone else's, trust me. |

The whole idea about being spoiled is that you get used to it and won't learn to appreciate what you have. But what makes you guys keep assuming that every high school kid who gets a WRX/STI doesn't fully appreciate what he or she has? Some are spoiled and very ignorant for this reason, and you can clearly see it when hanging out with them, but there are just as many out there who actually know how to appreciate what they got, even if they didn't work for it themselves, so it's not fair to bunch all of them together and beat them down. Let's face it, if your parents offered you a ferrari, you would take it also.
I'm jealous too, I had to get a ride to and from school from my mom through out high school, while looking at my peers with their RX8's and 350Z's with nice sound systems pass me by, but let's keep this real. Last edited by vinxH; 09-27-2009 at 04:28 PM. |

There's something else about when a parent gives you a car. They are trusting you with it, and something in you really doesn't want to betray that trust. Although, there is a limit, and there are also some kids who don't care about the trust thing.

Yea I came from a rich highschool also. BMW, audi, mercedes, and lexus were about as abundant as leaves on trees. 2 land rovers, 3 350zs, a junior had a CTS-V.
I had a buddy who got a new mustang, crashed it, and then his parents got him a low mileage 06 wrx about a month later. blegh.... I got my 2.5i end of junior year (i joined this site to get info on what kinda of car to get and apparently it worked) and I treat my car better than the kids who had cars worth twice as much. There were very few kids like BeefySti who actually appreciate the things he has. Im glad im in college now. |

i had (2) nice cars in highschool..... then i finished college and realized affording a $15,000 car on your own is pretty hard.... you never realize in highschool how spoiled you are (or i was) until you finally buy your own car while paying rent/utilities/bills ect... a $20k car in highschool may not seem like much, but wait till your parents kick you off their expenses... a $20k car is A LOT of money while making payments going through college

When I was in HS (graduated in 07) I had my 03 2.5rs which was an auto...no mods during high school for the most part. Then in my second year of college towards the end (this last march) that was totaled in an accident and I found the 04 WRX I'm driving now last June..

I graduated in 08. I had a built 03 WRX (363whp/381ftlbs) as a freshmen, sold it for a F-350 turbo diesel, then got an 08 M3. Didnt like that, so i got an 08 STi, it blew up so i had to block rebuilt (all forged) with a gt3076. I pick it up on friday, i cant wait. All in all i have had a few other cars, but i appreciate all of them and drive like a grandma.

Yeah, it was only the LS, and it was my brothers before I had it. Someone hit the driver side door, someone hit his hatch in the rear, I hit an 18wheelers rim in the snow, and it ate my quarter panel... But it still had a Skunk2 exhaust and a Skunk2 intake, so I thought it was still fun to drive lol. I've been outta HS now for a little over 3 years, got my WRX, wifes Tiburon, my mortgage, cell phone bills, utilities and so much other **** to pay for...I couldn't imagine just paying for my WRX in HS, I would've been **** broke.(hooray for the Navy and housing allowance...big helper with all my expenses.) |

I went to a wealthy high school, lots of kids driving expensive stuff; BMWs, SUVs, a few WRXes (graduated in 2004).
My parents were rich, and could have bought me some amazing vehicle, but didn't; instead, my father helped me experiment with my "mechanical" side, and got me hooked on DSMs. Had a 1992 Eagle Talon through high school, and by Junior year had it built up fairly well; ended up with a ported and polished head, methanol injection, and an Evo 3 16g kit, tuned. Was it super fast? Not amazingly, no. But it was more than fast enough to beat the hell out of the "rich kid's" stock cars, and that's all that mattered. Dad bought the car, I paid for modifications with part time jobs. Learned stuff, and felt a sense of satisfaction when done. Win/win. |

When it comes down to it you have to know the person. If you were offered a nice car when you were young, you would have taken it in a heartbeat. What sets it apart are the ones who would have handled it responsibly. If a kid gets a fast car and wrecks it, it is almost certainly the parents fault for poorly judging the responsibility of their children.

^This... my parents made the mistake of giving my brother the WRX wagon... also partly a mistake because I wanted it
I'm 16 now in my junior year of HS, currently drive my parent's Forester, saving up slowly for an L or RS to use for point a to b driving, once I find a source of legitimate income I'll probably swap/build it up. |

Having a pimped out ricer-mobile is what you're supposed to do in high school. It's that twenty-two-years-old who still drive around with taped-on rear spoilers and herrafrush wheels who are the joke.

Junior in highschool, had an 01 outback that got totalled while my dad was driving it then took the insurance money and bout a 2.5rs 4eat....
My dad said, buy a subaru (which i wanted more then anything else), no turbo (awww), and it has to be an automatic (such a killjoy on the car!) but i love my car nontheless. Plan on getting osme wheels in december (rota subzeros) then yellow fogs, mudflaps, jdm sti girll, some kind of lip. Just small exterior mods. On a side not one of my buddies has an OBP 06 STi with over 25,000 invested in it (front mount, full internals, advan wheels, etc.) His dad owns a mechanic shop and i've never met a kid who appreciated his car so much, he puts it on the lift and does all the work himself. I envy him haha. On and i go to public school in a rich area, tons of nice cars (kid got an 09 porsche cayenne s when he turned 16) but i've had a ton of comments on how cool my car is |

i don't see anything wrong with parents buying the car but definitely not ok with them paying for mods
