![]() Staged performance packages are SALES packages for specific companies. Company A's Stage 2 is Company B's Stage 3, so there is no such thing as a universal truth when it comes to Stages. Stages were designed as a sales package so someone does one stop shopping and they get a discount. Kind of like a #4 at McDonalds...everything for lunch + you save 30 cents.
GENERALLY SPEAKING, here is what the various stages are: Stage 0 = engine management alone Stage 1 = engine management alone Stage 2 = turboback exhaust + engine management Stage 2+ = stage 2 + a few other bolt ons Stage 4 = small bolt on turbo + fueling + turboback exhaust + engine management Stage 5 = anything above stage 4 While these are generalizations, DO NOT fall into the trap of labeling your car as a "Stage X" and expect people to magically know what you are talking about. Post specifics such as "I have a Cobb Stage 2" or "I have a TurboXS Stage 4", or better yet...forget stages and post 100% of your mods. And for purchasing, stages are fine and dandy and easy. But, a careful shopper can get the same performance by buying used or piecemeal vs. buying from a staged package. Just decide which is more valuable to you...time spend bargain hunting or the ease of a staged package.

![]() Also, Cobb does not define a Stage 2 as requiring a TBE. Only a downpipe is needed..

![]() seriously! The whole point is, "stage x or y or whatever" are very general terms. I'm "stage2" but with a lot of other little bits (some not so little, PPG's

![]() The first time I saw "staged" packages for the WRX was from TurboXS. I believe they get credit for the current vernacular (for better or worse).
They had the following (not including supporting mods) back in '01: Stage 1: EM Stage 2: TBE + EM Stage 3: TBE + EM + IC Stage 4: TBE + EM + IC + Turbo Amazingly, each stage cost around $800 - $1000. How did they do that? ![]() Vishnu came out with a similar staged program, but subtracted one to start with "Stage 0". It never really caught on. People just like bigger numbers, I guess. When people started to add pulleys and intakes and other things after they had a stage 2, it generally got lumped into "Stage 2.5" or "Stage 2+" using the TXS system. |

![]() Personally I believe the "stage" idea would only be useful if it was infact a universal or semi-universal term. I.E. stage 2 = TBE +/- a mod. I feel people just say their stage w/e because they can...
<---But then again i'm stage 47, so I have the NASA space shuttle strapped to my roof. |

Actually there is. A "standard" in this case is what is GENERALLY accepted. In other words, if almost everyone refers to a certain criteria as fitting a certain description, there you have it. A "Stage 2" is generally accepted to be a turbo back and engine management. Really "stages" are idiotic. Some stage 2 setups are BIG, including a turbo upgrade, injectors all of that. Others are only EM and a tbe, others yet are EM+up pipe+tbe. but em and tbe is most definately the "standard" stage 2. I call my stages things like this Stage fecal Stage apple Stage horsey And the uber power STAGE (capitols make it biggar!) |
