Default Spark plug socket problems (not in FAQs)

I am trying to usethe 5/8" spark plug socket everyone says to use, but it is not turning the plug at all. I tried to place it on my new NGK's to see if it fit, and it doesn't! So does 5/8" not work for aftermarket plugs and i am doing something wrong with the oem plugs or what is the deal here? I have an 04 wrx. Thanks!

Are you putting it 100% down on the plug? A spark plug socket is very deep and needs to be 100% seated in order to turn as the socket is only a socket WAY up inside and the distance between the rubber "holder/gripper" thingy and the actually socket is an inch or two. Otherwise, you might have some hillbilly spark plug socket that isn't 5/8". Use a regular 5/8" deep well socket instead. I don't mean to belittle you if you did 100% seat it, just making sure you knew that a spark plug socket is slightly different than a normal one.

Oh yeah I know its different, no offense taken, but the one I have must be crappy and just not deep enough, i guess at least. I picked a new 5/8" up at the store tonight and will try in the AM. Thanks!

My new socket with a rubber insert took quite a bit of force the first time I used it. Seems the rubber insert is sized on the small side.
