How about updating the first post with spring rates and ride heights?

Has it been mentioned what the spring rates and drop are for the MY04 JDM STi springs?

I am being offered a set of spring that wont lower the car much but will be as stiff as STI's. This set is for the GC body. THe only problem there is no part number to check the spring rate... So here is a picture of them...

Anybody knows how to de-code the paint marks?

I know that on my '04 it's purple/purple front and green/green rear.

Hmm.

Your post #295 said they came off a '05 STi and post #314 says the purple/purple rear came off an '07 STI.

Could Subaru have done one of their infamous running changes in '04-'05?

I don't remember anything about a rate change in the rear.

I know this thread has been going on for years, and some patterns seem to have formed in the various dots on the springs. But one of the first things that came to mind, was that the dots are just assembly checks. One guy on the line installs his part, and puts a dot on a certain coil. The next guy installs his part, and then adds a dot. When the car reaches the end of the suspension installation, they check that all the dots are present, and the car goes on to be completed. I would assume the suspension is such a safety concern that insuring everything is installed, and torqued would be a priority.

This could explain different dots for different versions, separate assembly lines and different workers. Each worker may have a different color. And it could explain cars that are the same model having different dots, worker A is sick one day, worker B takes his place and puts his different dot in the same place worker A would have.

Just an idea.

or they have lots and lots of iterations of springs (and bushings) on hand and need a way to correctly identify what is what

Just got done changing out my stock struts, and there were quite a few pink, purple, etc. lines here and there on different components.

Maybe they do use the dots to designate different springs in the factory, I didn't see any part numbers or anything on my stock ones.

Question what do I have?

So I've searched high and low for a set of 04' struts for a set of springs i bought, ended up I could only get a full set so I took it.

Here's what I got, the seller claimed these are a JDM STI Pink set..
He laughed when I said, those are stock springs not "Pinks"

Either way my cars in pieces and not being driven, so I bought em just to get it back on the road, and me happy again.

Front struts-
RA RH - 20311FE300
RA LH - 20311FE310

as seen in pic below both front have a "purple, purple" blot marking on the third coil up

Rear Struts-
20360FE852
20360FE842

also as seen below paint markings are "green, purple"

I noticed the struts do have KYB stamped on them.

going off the first post... This what I assume to have...
GDB(d) STi spec C
Right Front strut - 20311FE300
Left Front strut - 20311FE310
Right Rear strut - 20360FE840
Left Rear strut - 20360FE850
Front spring - unknown
Rear spring - unknown

What set is this? Is it still unknown, and what's it expected or normal "used" price?

TIA

Just picked up a pair of 07 STi takeoffs and they have the same purple/purple markings on both the front and rear springs.

Did anyone ever figure out what the rear 1 purple 1 green springs are?

I have two sets of STi springs, one set has 2 purple markings on both the front and rear springs. These were sold to me as '05 STi springs. The other set has 2 purple dots on the front and 1 purple 1 green on the rear. They were sold to me as part of '04 STi takeoffs.

I'd like to know the specs on the rear springs so I can figure out which ones to use. I'm guessing the purple/green springs have a higher spring rate due to the extra dead coil? Any differences in ride height?

On ebay someone one was selling a set of springs off of an '06 STI recently and they were purple purple front and rear.

slintux, Dead coils per se don't add to to the spring rate all other things being equel. It's the number of active coils.

K=(W^4)*G/*8*N*(D^3)

K=spring rate lb/in
W=wire diameter in
G=120,000,000 for steel
N=number of active coils
D=diameter of the coil at the center of the wire.

this thread has been infinately helpful to me, so thanks guys for putting this together.

Do you guys know the ride height differences between v7 sti take offs and 04 sti suspension?

I searched and I see that 02-03 MY01-02 wrx's are about 10mm taller than the STI springs but I cannot see WHICH STI is being referenced. the v7? or v8 models?

I have V7 sti fronts and the mythical V7 GENOME rears and I have read that the GENOME rears are 20mm shorter than stock.. but stock compared to WRX's..

I am a bit confused as to what I'd end up with in installing these to my 02 wrx..

Thanks for help, if any..

I picked up a set of sti springs yesterday that were both the front and rear are purple/purple. Granted He pulled these out of a pile of springs so not sure if they were all off the same car. The only ting I am certain of is the coil count is correct.....I think I know in the picture its hard to see the purple on all of them but they all have it. Some are just rubbed off a little more
