Just picked up this old 2001.5 Kona Stinky Five from craigslist.

I had a Spec Pitch last year, sold it for a Cannondale hardtail, kicked myself for getting rid of the Pitch, started hunting for a good deal on a heavy trail, light FR bike, found this.

Good times.

Hopefully I'm going to get back into this...

I'm headed to my parents' this weekend, and picking up my bike, which will be freshly serviced this week.

It's a circa 1995 Specialized Rockhopper FS. Definitely needs new tires and a tune up, and I think I'll order new brake pads while I'm at it.

I had one of those... about 3 years in, it developed hairline cracks on the head tube. I got a factory replacement frame... I have no idea if that problem was endemic to that generation of frame or not, but give it a very thorough inspection.

Interesting....

I just brought it to the shop. Had a new rear tire installed, and had it tuned up.

Brought it home and powerwashed it, then greased it up. Took it out for a 6 mile ride tonight...it rode great!

Maybe you just had a bad one....

Also, mine is a '96 that was a leftover I picked up in '97. Still have the receipt.

Hey All,

I'm new to the NE area (just moved to Somerville, MA on 6/10) from the west coast. Finally getting settled in but haven't had a chance to take the bike out yet. Do you guys have any resource you can PM me to start looking into local trails? Haven't ridden in a few months but I want to get back on the saddle and check out whats around before it gets too hot. Any suggestions much appreciated

Middlesex Fells are nearby, and quite fun. Lynn Woods isn't too far out either.

I'm not sure what you mean by "before it gets too hot." ?? It's already hot as it's going to get. The fall is the best time to ride in New England.
