for the fog lights? Pull the shroud out around the fog light....it's all gravy from there. If memory serves there is a few bolts you take out and remove the entire sealed assembly to get behind the unit. I have to replace the driver side one tomorrow...if you're still having issues I'll snap pics. No need to remove any fenders.....like at all.

okay after digging around...here is one link

http://www.clubwrx.net/forums/exteri...placement.html

the bolts around the unit are hard to see but they are there....take them out and pull the unit forward. I'll snap pics tomorrow.

Okay first things first....go grab the following tools:

1) Flat head screw driver
2) Rachet with extension thingy and 12mm socket for splash gaurd removal and 10mm socket for fog light removal. Extension not really necessary but helps.

Tools:

1) Remove fun well engineered plast splash tray from under the car. Like if you were going to do an oil change. 5 12mm bolts.

2) Pop off the fog light shroud. If you've never done this before....relax. It's way easy. Locate the little divet in the shroud and use the flat head to pry it up.

3) To da! There is your fog light assembly in all of it's glory. Now the retard part. Locate 2 plastic pop tabs that hold the dust tray protection thingy.

I'm pointing here with the screw driver

Pic under the car...again pointing to it with screw driver

There are two holding the cover into place. I hate these things...in theory you take a small flat head and extend the middle and they are suppose to pop up. Only one does for me....if you can take both off and remove the dust shield go for it. I only removed one and pulled the cover back and tucked it under to expose under the fog light.

4) Now that the dust shield is out of the way look under the fog light and locate two screw bolt thingys. Take extension and 10mm socket and remove both

another pic after I removed them....pointing to them with screw driver

5) Here is where the magic happens. After you remove the two bolts...the whole fog light assembly easily slides out. You'll notice that there is a metal clip on top to the assembly that the light hangs on to.. You should have no resistance when removing the assembly.

6) Now open up the back turning the plastic housing....just like replacing the headlights.

7) Remove fun metal clip and insert H3 bulbs. As you see here I use rice lights because I'm a bit of a ricer.

8) Put everyting back together.....money shot

Notes: On step 4 notice you can see the light wire assembly where the bolts are located. You can choose to take the bolts out or not. If you feel magical by all means access the light bulb from this step without taking out the entire light assembly....but you'll be going by feel. Some people claim they can do this whole thing without any of my steps but by feeling around under the car....I don't know who these people are but they are something special.

Good luck...hope this helps! PM or post if you get stuck.

I just changed mine last night...you only need one hand to change these, even with limited coordination it is easy. Just pull the lower part of the inner fender shroud down(2 push-pins), turn the black cover on back of fog light assy, take out old bulb, replace with new bulb. Done. Should literally take 5 minutes with a small flat-head screwdriver and maybe long needle-nose pliers. 5 min each side.

Thanks very much for this. I just did this on my car as well.

My own findings:
* I couldn't do it without pulling the lens assembly out of the car. Tried reaching into the back, but couldn't really get enough leverage, and also, didn't really understand how the H3 bulb fit in there. Doing this blind would be really tough, especially in trying to get the gasket back into place. (Corollary - don't forget to run the H3 cables through the gasket)
* The little plastic push-pin things are really irritating. I deformed the two big ones pretty significantly, getting them out.
* The lower small tabs on the front fascia is annoying - it kept missing the slot, and causing a weird gap. Watch out for that.

I saw the 100W version of the H3s at the auto store as well. Was very tempted, but I once melted a wiring harness by using a bulb that had too much current draw, so I opted for the normal (and cheap) $7 55W version. Seems to be OK - not sure how much extra light the 100 watters would've given me anyway.

Isn't it? After I took these pics I haven't used that screwdriver since. Perhaps I'll keept that screwdriver around as my Hollywood tool. Only to be used in modeling pics and live motion pictures.

Thumbs up 2005 WRX WAGON fog lights

Appreciate the info and pics. I had to pop 2 plastic rivets on driver side and 3 on passenger side to get at the two retaining bolts for the fog light assemblies. I read in another thread that some guy was able to replace the lamps without pulling the assembly out. Not possibly with mine as the lamp was held in place by a spring clip. Other than that easy! Again...thanks.

Very helpful thread. Saved me $45 over the dealership. Took about 30 minutes. I didn't need to take off the large middle guard. Just the small panel on the passenger side and the fog light cover.

Body molding removers from harbor freight were a big help for the annoying little clip/screws. The H3 bulb was $7 at auto zone.

Whomever said they could get at it through the wheel well is a magician. That didn't look possible to me.

I believe I was running Piaa xtreme white H1 bulbs back then. Nothing special. They appear bright in that pic due to the angle and the camera phone i was using when I took the pic.
