Engine Swap in '99 Legacy Outback
163K Miles
Automatic Transmission Instead of fixing the headgasket, I have heard that doing an engine swap can be an even better option.
I am looking for to make this car operate reliably without breaking the bank. Would love to keep this car for a few years. Thanks in advance for your thoughts!

Okay. What I would honestly do is grab an EJ22E and put EJ25D heads on it. That will make power with reliability.
