Test it first. If it ain't broke you'll save money by not fixing it.
Whatever the case may be, it is easy to change. It is located on the back of the intake manifold with a hose going to it from the crankcase breather, the little plastic widget with a hose to it and the intake hose. The PCV is a metal fitting with a hex flange. Unscrew it and it comes out. You can test it by pulling a line off the aforementioned widget and sucking/blowing on the line. The PCV valve should allow air to flow one way and not another. I know there is a guide for changing it on Scoobymods. |

Yes there is, and it should also be on www.northursalia.com.
Probably slightly different location from the one on the RS, like my car. I think it's a 19mm socket. Easiest thing in the world to change. =S2= |

or a deep socket and a flex joint.
they are cheap enough that I would just pick up a new one and replace it, rather than remove, check, and re-install. |

Regular deep socket is perfectly easy on my car, but yeah not sure about the WRX.

look under the throttle body on the rear side of the engine - it's grey and has a rubber hose put onto one end. you can see it well from the passenger side of the engine.

On my 2000 Forester 2.5L the PCV has one hose to the aircleaner box and one hose to the intake manifold. The valve looks to be about 2 &1/2 inches tall. Has Subaru changed the system that much?

I changed mine this summer and it really isnt a piece of cake to get to and you will really need a light to see EXACTLY where it is.
Once you find it, should be a piece of cake. |

Neither do I Jaime. If you hear it click back and forth, it's still fine. If not, replace it. But.....it is a cheap and easy part to swap out, so I wouldn't hate.

just did my last night after 120k miles, the old one looked like it could go another 120k.
I figured it wasn't listed in the maint. sched as a mistake, although those who change it every 30k seem a little over the top. dm |

I agree that it probably lasts a lot longer than say the recommended replacement interval which some sites claim (15k miles, iirc) - but it's also not easy to tell how well it's working - clicking back and forth is important, but the quality of the seal when it's closed is what determines it's lifetime... I dunno - it's a pretty cheap part, so if you are doing the normal preventive maintenance at 15k or 30k or whatever, if you are going to check it, you might as well just replace it.

Really? Or are you just fooling with me now? BTW, caught you on (damn forgot the name of the show) on the SPEED channel a couple days ago... Wow....$3 for parts...how much would they charge for labor on that anyway? Since I had it done on my 30k...guess I'll never have to change it.... |

quick question to hijack the thread, is it in a different place on the 05 RS? I looked for it yesterday and I found two hoses on the drivers side of the throttle body, and one hose from the valve cover to the "torque box" behind the throttle body. Thanks.
