Default Chicago-area "OMG it's the first snow of the season!" <Crashzors> Thread

I encountered 3 accidents on the way to work this morning (17 miles), which wouldn't have been bad if there was an appreciable amount of snow on the roads.

Two involved sedans and major front end damage, and the third was a Durango that drove over a curb and into a parked car.

They obviously aren't experiencing the beauty of symmetrical all wheel drive.

I swear people get dumber and dumber every ****ing year when the first snow hits. It took me an hour to get to work today, which usually only takes me 25-30 minutes (26 miles).

I saw a base-model Neon a good 50-75 feet off the road in the middle of a corn field. It had just happened because the lights were on, car still running and she was opening her door to get out to assess the damage.

People live in the ****ing Midwest where we get a decent amount of snow every year. We don't get dumped on like some parts of the country and yet people can't figure out how to drive properly. This is seriously one of my biggest pet peeves about drivers out here.

And people relearn how to drive all over again.
So who is gonna be the first midwest Subaru to crash then?

Let's all be careful out there.

Yeah, I walked out the door and was like "Oh sweet, snow!!", then I thought about how people are for the first few weeks and went back in, grabbed my Zune and took the train. 20 minutes to get to the office.

Driving the 02 wrx wagon with the snows on it. So no problems here in the great north.

This.

I didn't even have to leave my subdivision to personally witness some dumbass cruising around a corner too fast and hitting a curb. I lol'd. The V with the Nokian WR's seems good. We'll have to see how it is in anything deep though, that might be tough. Otherwise, stopping was very good and I am happy as long as I can get around in mild amounts of snow like this.

I put my winters on last night, although they were unecessary since I just sat around for 2.5 hours to get to work today (S Loop to Northbrook). But at least it didnt take me 3.5 hours like it did on Wednesday night.

Anyone want to buy a brick and timber loft in the south loop?

No worries; I just bought some fenders and rode to work; city streets are fine, though the trails up north are pretty treacherous.

Of course I will need a brush to scrape buildup out of the unused cogs...

It's an old phone plug from the mid 60s when the place was built.

Ha ha Well driving to work sucked but that was because I had to go home and get somethign I forgot. AWD powa and well watching a nissan Sentra SiR sitting in the ditch on 294 is funny because it was drier there than on the side streets.

On my way home I saw even more cars off the road than I did on my way in to work!!

At least 5 cars in the median along the Elgin O'Hare. I couldn't believe it. Many of the drivers were still in the cars, so they must have gone off in the past hour. The roads were totally clear!

actually, i didnt see anyone in the ditch. i drive from rockford to sycamore everyday. it was a huge departure from last year when the first significant snowfall hit there were at least 5-6 cars in the ditch. i love my blizzies!

Last night driving back from Chicago (mini install day) two cars in front of me on 94 I watched a Camry go into the ditch. I was in the fast lane and they came across my lane spinning. Went into the center ditch...
