What's going on with your hp and torque? I expected to see a much different shape with this new setup. There's almost a 80 ft/lbs spike between 4600 and 5800 and it keeps dropping down fast to 7000. HP peaks but then falls as well. I thought it would have a long flat torque curve with power rising to at least 7000. Even with your S1 cams I thought it would look different on this setup. Is something holding it back? Boost is hold very flat so its not that. I can't see anything with your build that would seem to hold you back up top on this setup.

I'm not sure. I was a little surprised it drops so much too. I thought the big torque hump may be wheelspin but I've had a similar curve on half a dozen pulls throughout the week. Other thought is that it could be my way to small filter killing the top end. It is only 2" long.

I saw you pit a 4" intake pipe on yours now. How big is the filter? What did you have in before this?

Have done any logs with the filter off to see how they compare?

Well i think my issue with the big filter is that i have the pipe jammed in there really far so its only using a small part of it, the filter its self is like 6.5 inches long or something maybe even 8. I need to cut back the pipe to make it all fit well as i just jammed it in for a test fit and drive.

I normally just run no filter

Pipe way into filter is no good. I need to try my velocity stack once the roads are cleaner.

I run this filter directly clamped onto my turbo due to space constraints of my own:

http://www.knfilters.com/search/prod...x?prod=RU-2510

Could something like that, a little taller perhaps work for you or are you trying to avoid having the filter stick out any farther than it is?

What is the CFM rating of that filter?
Have you tried any 4th gear data logs?

The original hope was to have the filter site behind the foglight cover. But this one doesn't fit anyways, so I should have just gotten something longer. I have looked into Treadstone, Vibrant, and AEM as well as larger offerings from K&N. I just looked at the filter area to try and decide if any will flow enough to be worth it.

I added yours to the list below. It only has a small amount more filter area than my stubby one. Mine is very short, but the diamter is large so that somewhat makes up for it.

I may also try this foam filter. I'm not sure how well it will flow though. It may end up being much worse than an actual filter. I'd prefer not to have something sticking way out of my bumper, but that may be the best option.

Code:
Brand Model Price Height	Bottom Top	Filter Area
Treadstone	10045 $29.40 6.02	5.90	5.50	216.08
Treadstone	10015 $26.25 4.50	5.90	5.50	161.80
Vibrant 10931 $61.95 3.63	5.00	5.00	113.88
AEM 21-205 $48.99 5.25	6.00	5.13	186.02
K&N RC-4480 $62.99 2.19	6.88	5.88	96.36
K&N RU-2510 $37.99 3.50	5.38	4.38	111.50
K&N RU-2520 $41.99 5.00	5.38	4.38	156.19

I have no idea the flow ratings. That info is very hard to come by.

I haven't done any 4th gear logs. I'm still on snow tires and they don't really like high speed.

If you call K&N they can give you the CFM rating of that filter. When I designed my set-up I called them prior to buying a filter. The one I have flows about 950 CFM.

That's a hair over 300 in^2. Over 3x the filter area that mine has.

Maybe I should just get an eBay filter. It should have more filter area than mine...

How often will you really be running a filter?

Probably most of the time on the street? I drove it to work every day this week. I've had a filter on the whole time.

Love your progress and the way everything is so well done. I cant wait to see some trap times. Have you thought about running the fog covers (just the turbo side) that are mesh with some sort of 'fabbed' drop in style filter behind it for street use and removable filter for the strip or just a stealth look?

I've considered many different options. I really haven't decided anything yet. I'd really love to just run a velocity stack and no filter but I don't think that would end well on the street.

Hey Ben I seem to remember you posting side-by-side shots of the Tial vs Turbosmart EWGs but can't find them for the life of me.. can you repost them if it's convenient?

I see you're running Turbosmart now, would you say they are superior to Tial?

Thanks

I think this is the best comparison I've posted:

On my rotated setup I could actually swap springs without even taking the gate off the car!

Obviously this won't be possible with a stock location setup but I still find the TurboSmart design to be far superior and well worth the money. Once installed and setup correctly I didn't have any issues with either of them. They're both solid options and work very well.

I'm going ewg soon and I've been torn between the two. The new model tials look much more like the turbosmart's do.

Edit: Nvm looks like you did use the newer tial, is it really that much bigger?

Ifek and xluben do you have the grimmspeed uppipe? Or a modified aftermarket uppipe?
I'm looking to have a fabricator friend just weld me vbands on my Invidia uppipe

Here are some pictures to compare. They are scaled in a way that is a bit misleading. Just keep in mind that the bottom portion of these images is really the same size between the Tial and TurboSmart. If you keep that in mind, you should be able to tell that the upper half of the Tial is much, much larger.

Tial 38mm vs TurboSmart 40mm

Tial 44mm vs TurboSmart 45mm

Thanks for the great response! I thought the Tial was smaller for some reason.. Good thing I just installed a Comp-Gate40

Keep up the good work
