The HK system in our outback is acceptable for what it is. If you're an audiophile, it's not a great option, but if you're just an average music consumer, it'll likely exceed your expectations.

The HK system is beyond fine...the weakest link from a sound standpoint is exterior road/wind noise...this coming from an audiophile.

Perhaps because of my Blaxicaness, I'm prone to turning my music up pretty loud, at least enough to feel the music. If I hear rattling and can't adjust the volume to accommodate, I tend to replace the speakers. My previous 5 Subies I've installed aftermarket speakers (typically Infinity components) and been satisfied. Overall the HK in my Impreza blows my previous speakers out of the water, minus a dash rattle that I'll probably never tackle.

It probably helps that the new Impreza is way quieter than any previous Impreza platform vehicle.

After reading soo many criticisms of sound systems on here, I am REALLY glad I am not an audiophile. My boss is and loves Lexus and tried showing me how much better their system is. I "couldn't tell the difference" enough to care. My only care is I can get it loud enough.....I feel lucky about it..

I used to be... Not any more. Not that I don't appreciate it, I can certainly still tell the difference, I just don't value that difference enough anymore. Still have the stock stereo in my base wrx...

I really like my HK system. It even prompted my buddy with the base audio to upgrade his after listening to mine. In a car that makes all sorts of noises to interfere with music, it more than suffices, imo.

I have to say the new impreza’s base system is almost just as good as my hk, and I bet its HK system sounds better than mine. So I can see the next WRX/STI getting a newer starlink with an even better system......... that I’m sure won’t satisfy everyone heh heh.

No idea why people think a hatch is more practical than a sedan...

Plus did people see the last gen impreza hatch? Looked hideous. At least subaru did a great job turning the boring impreza sedan into a relatively good looking wrx sedan. Never would've happened with the hatch.
I've had both and I was able to fit a tv on the hatch where the sedan would not...just saying, there are times.

The sloppy 6spd is mostly to blame. If only they put in something with similar gearing to the STI 6spd with an actual overdrive gear, that would be perfect...

My current 6 speed is the best shifting subaru manual ive owned. The lack of top end power is the issue.

Yes, after a tune. I owned one. The discussion is what Subaru offers from the factory. Current WRX, from the factory, has more power. Once we start talking about tuned and modified cars then most discussions become pointless. People want factory warranty with their power.

Besides that, current WRX 6-speed is way better than the previous 5-speed. Plus it drives better in every way. So I'll take the de-tuned current WRX over the more-powerful-after-warranty-voiding-tune-is-applied previous WRX.

Mr subaru turned a hideous impreza into a decent wrx so even though these concepts are a waste of time I'm hopeful the next rex will look good as the new impreza, while pretty bland, is better looking than old one.

Now we just need a 340-350 hp engine in the sti and much better refinement. When you're paying this much you shouldn't have to put up with horrible road noise and insane rattling inside. Plus most of us are no longer 15, we want performance along with daily livability. I like my rec but some days it's a rattly, noisey, pain in the butt.

They better make the STI and WRX a hatch... or screw them forever

I'd actually disagree but to each his own:

(sorry a little off topic)

Some of us already said that. Like I WANTED to buy a VW or Ford.

You know what killed the WRX you owned for me? Well I loathe sedans for one, but it was those rockers, under the doors. How they jut out, and almost unavoidable to drag a shoe across them. I could probably avoid 90% of the time being careful but passengers? No way. They are so bad even suntek PPF would be destroyed over time. I drove the 15/16 WRX/STI multiple times and that rocker always reminded me of some riced out F&F Civic.

I will give the current WRX a few things. The shifter people complain about, if you mod it, it is pretty damn good. Short shifter/bushing kit, whatever the hell, the modded one I drove was pretty damn good. It was tuned as well, and you can reliably tune it below the rod bending threshold. It was about as fast as my Stage 2 STI.

All day long. I HATED that trend of the tail lights with the '12-'14. Glad it's finally going away industry wide. I am pretty happy with Subaru's current trend. Not seeing any negatives(for me) minus I wish they looked more like the concepts.

We're not off topic, the wrx will be the impreza with so called wide fenders just like the current wrx. So it will have the same basic shape (body shell, greenhouse etc).

But man your comparison there showed me how the new and old impreza the exact same identical shape and form and that they only difference is the tail lights in that rear three quarter view.

So with their first ever modular platform which apparently cost them over a billion dollars, could they both have changed the design a bit more? I mean they had a clean slate right? Why not adopt more of the concepts? We'll never know with mr subaru. Tbd new civic was a bold change from the old one, might've been nice for subaru to be bit bolder too...

We can still get a decent looking wrx of they get the details right i suppose. They always have weird quirky design details tho which sometimes makes them uglier than they need to be.

I reckon you could afford an rs3 hatch or a45 amg so why bother with an econobox wrx?

Fair call. But how often do you need to carry stuff that tall? The rest of the time you have a smaller boot than the sedan.

The previous gen Impreza had more angles. Current gen has more curves, similar to 08-11 Impreza, but inspired by 12-16 Impreza with more aggressive styling.

Being able to afford it does not mean I want to spend that much money on it. ... but thanks for thinking highly of me
