Default tt conversion wiring questions

hey all!! I live in aus and are keen to get a jdm legacy tt half cut and throw it into a 95 n/a liberty (n/a legacy). I am still a bit confused about the wiring, I have read pages and pages of threads here and on (ozliberty.com) but dont have a full understanding! My beleifs were that when you buy a complete half cut you transfer everything from the donor car into the other, hence the wiring! but to my understanding you still need to do some kind of splicing, is that just to the rear loom? others have said that I dont have to re-do the dash including the dash wiring if I want to keep it? If I do will this create lots more work with the splicing?? I have a technical mind and can do all the installation of the cut but its just the wiring that has got me stuffed any help would be much appreciated, cheers!!!

get the wiring with your half cut/front clip. then flip your harness. i did this with a JDM to USDM swap. worked fine. i lengthened the cluster wiring, instead of undoing the harness from the tape, thats it. put the ECU where the USDM one was(i cut one tab off so it'd even bolt in the same spot). not too hard, not factory clean underneath, but you can't tell when it's assembled. no issues whatsoever.

thanks for that reply but that isnt my case because I have a right hand car in aus! im just wondering where new dash loom connects into the car loom because when I stripped my car I found that the dash wiring joined the rest of the car and it didnt unplug! I was wondering if you have to splice it into the car loom? cheers!

isn't australia RHD? so you are doing RHD to RHD? just can't find where it unplugs? not following, sorry!

i CAN help you, just need to verify whats happening.

im unsure of liberty/legacy specifics. but imprezas are oh so similar. they typically do come apart, depends on RHD/LHD and MY were dealing with.

As long as your TT swap is a '94-99 TT you should be able to just unplug your bulkhead harness and plug in the JDM one. There's shouldn't be any splicing involved...

Unhappy

ok, say I rip out the engine and engine harness and the old dash of my car and all the wiring is left in tact from the dash still inside the car, it all goes to the right side of the car and is situated around the ecu! I tried to then rip the dash loom out but it was then heading down the right hand side of my car to the rear ( for tail lights etc i assume ). there was 3 big conectors i beleive but no plugs so that I couldnt just disconnect them, and I see that the front clip come as "the front half of the car" and are wondering do they just cut the wires before or after the conection boxes to the rear of the car? do I then have to rewire them back into to the rear end of my car? I hope I am making sence here!! can someone just tell us how they went about the wiring if they have the patients and time please just so that I can get my head around it please because it is killing me thanks alot fellers!!

i got my clip with the entire vehicle harness. i have a rear section for JDM STi(or wagon) if you need, but it plugs in. and if your doesn't, then im not sure besides a wiring job. i have been through 3 harnesses personally and they all have been plug style not full wire like you describe.

Now I am confused. What's the difference between a connector and a plug?

I just had a quick look at my 98 forester gt wiring and it looks like the engine loom conects into the ecu and dash loom, and the rear loom conects into that as well! when I opened up my old 90' legacy the plug for the rear loom didnt have a lever to dissconnect it from the dash and engine looms, it was a white box with wires going in and comming out! so the question I am asking now is " does the front clip wiring plug into the rear loom so it is a complete car circut" ? so that I can power my tail lights and windows etc! sorry I might not be commin accross clearly but reading (hotshot33610) forum "As far as I can tell, the wiring for the ECU is already mostly completed, but I need to find the connector from the rear harness, and sit down with wiring diagrams and a soldering iron" he has the same problem! thanks!

Ahhhh. Now I get it. The white box is the Super Multiple Junction (SMJ). It does actually disconnect. You have to unbolt the through bolt and then it will seperate. I now see your problem. There's wires that run to the rear chassis off of that in addition to going to the ECU. If you are going to try and install the TT harness without splicing in the ECU portion, you will need to figure out what thos chassis wires are and find a way to keep them. In the past I have seen people just splice past the SMJ and remove it completely...
