I tapped in the wires to the first pin slots on the connector. Top positive, bottom negative.

But i dont know where to tap my wires from... my friend did the mod also on a wrx base and he tap to the rear defroster wires and he said that one mirror heats up first and then when the mirror finished heating up then the other starts to heatup.. any inputs on this? Or where can tap my wires for this to work properly. Again im only looking to do heated mirrors

Can I do this to my 2008 subaru Impreza?
I imported my 2008 Impreza from the US to Europe and I need aditional side indicators, on the mirrors or on the side of the car, to make it road legal. This is not by choice! Imprezas are rare in the Netherlands and I know nothing about my beloved subaru, can someone give me some advice?! I also need a rear fog light, what a nighmare!

For those of you who'd like to buy the cover already color matched for your vehicule, here are the OEM part numbers.
MSRP is 75.40$ USD. I have yet to discover what are "V2" and "IM" colors. If you know, let me know and I'll edit the post (or you can ask a moderator I guess). :P To me this is a better choice, since it cost about 50$ to have both cover painted at a body shop. In the end, it costs the same price since those cover are 25$ more than the non painted ones from OP. Right mirror cover: -------------------- 91054AG040EN; Dark Gray Metallic 91054AG040I4; Plasma Blue Pearl 91054AG040IM; 91054AG040PG; World Rally Blue Pearl 91054AG040RL; Lightning Red 91054AG040TI; Spark Silver 91054AG040TQ; Ice Silver Metallic 91054AG040V2; 91054AG040VW; Obsidian Black 91054AG040WG; Aspen White 91054AG040WU; Satin White Pearl Left mirror cover: ------------------- 91054AG050EN; Dark Gray Metallic 91054AG050I4; Plasma Blue Pearl 91054AG050IM; 91054AG050PG; World Rally Blue Pearl 91054AG050RL; Lightning Red 91054AG050TI; Spark Silver 91054AG050TQ; Ice Silver Metallic 91054AG050V2; 91054AG050VW; Obsidian Black 91054AG050WG; Aspen White 91054AG050WU; Satin White Pearl |

@801garage
Yep, that is exactly what he's saying. But you can also do like Ntmid8r did, just buy the covers and blinkers, and 4 screws # 91039AJ500 (thanks to newsubie09) and run 2 wires from your blinker to the male connector on your actual mirror. Unless you can grab 2x 2011+ STi mirrors for cheap from a wrecked STi, I think Ntmid8r's solution is way cheaper. |

I went to Subaru last week to get the caps in wrb. They said they no longer sell them painted only primed. All the numbers for the painted ones would take them to the primed version and said it replaced those numbers. Lame

This is lame, in January 2017 I went to a dealer in Canada for a quote for all the parts required, including those painted cap. I was never told they were only the primed version.
I did also ask to a local body shop how much it would cost to paint both cap if I would get the primed version. Price was about 45$ CAD for the pair. So it was more expensive to buy primed caps + having them painted, then buying the painted version from Subaru according to the quote I had. I did not order anything in the end, I was fortunate enough to get my hands on a pair of mirror from a wrecked 2014 STi of the same paint color than my 2011 2.5i. |

Okay so I've done research and tried to dig into old threads full of broken picture links so I'm writing a little guide hopefully to help future people out, this is for the 2011-2014 BASE WRX. It turns out if you have a base 2011-2014 WRX you can use STi mirrors from 08-10 for plug and play or if you snag a pair of mirrors from a 2011-2014 STi like I did you can swap the 8 and 10 pin plugs from your current mirrors to the STi mirrors. You will hook all the pins from the STi mirror into the 8 pin block leaving out the 2 black wires (those are for the heated function).
After you have the mirrors off the car, you first need to remove the locking tabs from the plugs coming off the mirrors. You just need to pry the sides off and pull the piece towards the wires to remove, there's these pieces on both sides of plug. Here is base 8 pin plug with locking tabs removed Here is STi 10 pin plug with locking tabs removed I would make note of your wires and how they arranged. Take pictures, notes, whatever works for you. I followed the diagram below which matched up for me along with lots of pictures with notes in the background. One small oddity for me was one of my mirrors, the color of the pink wire was actually red but pink in the other mirror. So like I said, take notes! Now the tricky part of removing the pins from the plugs. It requires a very small screwdriver of sorts (I used one from an electronics repair kit). You have to put the screwdriver in between the pin and locking tab, circled in picture below, which will then allow you to just slide the wire out of the plug. Then just do this for each wire. Once you have your wires out, you just need to take your 8 pin plug and start putting the pins from the STi mirror into the corresponding spots matched with the diagram above and those pictures/notes you took! Like I said earlier, you will not have a spot for the 2 solid black wires for the heated function. Here is a picture of the STi wires in the 8 pin plug with black wires hanging out. Now you can plug this into your door plug and be good to go, signals and mirror adjustment should work just fine! Currently working on how to wire of the heated black wires for full functionality. Will update when I get it working. Last edited by mathena2; 09-03-2017 at 05:02 PM. |

Well I got heated function working. I admit, it was a HUGE pain. I almost gave up part way through but stuck it out. If this is a feature you're on the fence about, I'd just skip it but if you're set on having it work too, here is how...
Once you plug your STi mirror into the door, there are 3 bolts holding the actual mirror to the door, scrape the paint off the door for one of them and ground one of the black wires underneath that (I attached a small piece of 18 gauge wire with a spade terminal and tightened the last bolt onto it). Now the hardest part. You need to run a piece of wire from inside the car through the door. There is a rubber hose containing the wiring harness in the door jam between door and car. So if you follow that, it leads into the car at the floorboard, behind the kick panels which you need to take out. I basically fought with a coat hanger having no luck and resorted to using a long zip tie as a pull cord for the wire. I don't have much advice on this because I had so much trouble with it. Once you successfully get your wire attached to the 2nd black wire and have the other free end inside you car, you need to splice into the harness that connects behind the kick panel. I used those t-tap connectors for convenience. You need to splice into wire 14 in the diagrams below. It's a red colored wire with a blue stripe. Important note: there are 2 wires with this same color coming out of that harness, one is clearly thicker and that's the one you want. That's it, you can test the heated function by turning your car on and turning on the rear defroster. You should feel your mirrors start to warm from the center out. If you wait about a minute you can definitely feel the heating with the back of your hand radiating out from the center. |

I just picked up a pair of '11 STI mirrors, but I cannot figure out how to pry off the mirror caps for painting. Do these caps have tabs? I can't seem to find where they'd be located.
Any help would be appreciated. |

I have a 2010 WRX with heated mirrors, so the wiring is in the door harness but not in the cabin.
My understanding is that I need to tap the signal wiring and the recommended place is where the wires connect to the relay near the fuse box. Is there a way to connect some extra wiring to the relay, or between the relay and the connector rather than tapping the wires on the harness? Or maybe a "fuse tap" if there are seperate fuses for the left and right turn signals? Basically: I'd rather not tap into the harnesses directly if possible. I've never worked with exactly this kind of wiring before so maybe this is a really dumb question. But thanks for your help! Last edited by Wolfman_Jack; 11-26-2018 at 11:45 AM. |
