I have the same issue in my 2.5RS, the airbag light came on and then the horn stopped working - I'm pretty confident it's the clockspring but I just haven't gotten around to taking it all apart. I'm going to try and solder it back together first before shelling out a few hundred dollars for a new one.

Check the easy stuff first like the underseat connectors referenced on page 1 of this thread. It seems to take care of 90 % of the problems.

Oh and this should go in the Electrical Forum...

I have a 04 STi with 40K on the ODO, and it's still one of my favorite cars that I own. I've done a Gumball, BullRun, & Players Run, and I wouldn't hesitate to drive it around the world. The airbag light has plagued me for years coming on and off. Why I didn't come here for real info has me chapped. Subaru could never find out definitively why it was on, and the whole time it was nothing more than from me switching seats. Sonofabiotch! Thought I'd post up - since I just usually lurk for info - that sometimes we need to be reminded that it's usually just a simple fix.

Thank you Nasoic! Drive hard and have fun!

Default airbag light

I had this problem today after i pulled out my cluster on my 2004 wrx. After reassemble the airbag light came on. I tried this method, it didnt work for me but after someone sat on the passenger side it went away. I figured this information could be of use to someone. thanks

GTFO, I can't believe that worked. Wiggled the connector under the seat and we're all good.

Thanks Unabomber!

My 04 wrx with 117K miles. Airbag light came on since November 2015. Also airbag recalls was done in September 2015 and airbag light light off. As tonight, I found this post. I went to outside and worked on my WRX I had to unplgged and plugged yellow connector under of driver seat and light not goes off. I had to unplgged and plugged yellow connector under of passenger seat then airbag light goes off! I am so happy and not worried about it, now. thanks unabomber!

Bump. Glad I found this thread.
My airbag light has been on and off (mostly on) intermittently for years now. I never bothered to do anything about it since it always seemed to give me window of "off" to renew my inspection.

Anyway last week I brought the car in for the airbag recall. The airbag light had been on for months and I thought it would be a good time to (try to) get it fixed once and for good. Except that the damn thing went off a couple days before the appt! And then very annoyingly it came back on the day after the appt. My car must have a mind of its own.

I'll give the jiggle-the-wires fix a go.

Separately, my experience with the dealer has been a whole other headache.
When I got the car back after the recall service I noticed screws on the floor, loose dashboard panels and the recirc/outside air lever wasn't working right. I went right back to demand they fix it, but in the process they managed to *break* the recirc/outside air lever, which of course parts didn't have in stock so I have to go back yet again.

Metrowest Subaru in Natick Mass. They'll never touch my car again after this.

Well holy s__t. I jiggled all the wire plugs under the two front seats last night and the next time I started the engine the airbag light didn't come on. (Well, it came on with all the dash lights when you turn the key but then it went out like it normally should.) I didn't disconnect and reconnect any of the plugs; I literally just pressed the plug sockets into each other, even though they weren't loose, and when I started the engine all was normal.

Time to go fix my Rejected and previously Expired inspection before it reverts!

bumping this

I am in a bit of a different situation, where I have my airbag system removed because rally car (module, airbags, wiring is still there)
my dash light is on and I want to shut it off

I looked over 04 STI wiring diagrams (my car is 06 STI but I think cluster wiring is similar) and I have a feeling something needs to be grounded... can anyone confirm before I burn something?

Try the resistor trick.
3.3 ohm 1/4 watt resistor into the airbag connector.

Default Like clockwork

Omg.
My inspection expired last week. And within days, the airbag light, which had been off ALL YEAR, came back on. Just in time to prevent me from re-passing inspection. The f.ing thing must have an evil brain.
I came here to find a thread to rant in and found this. Scanning recent posts I started reading mine from 1 year ago but without noticing it was mine. I'm reading it thinking, holy crap this sounds exactly like my experience. And writing style.
I had totally forgotten about jiggling plug connectors. Crap.
Seems like there should be a sticky thread for airbag light, given the number of occurrences. <frowny emoticon>

Edit. Got a failey sticker so at least I won't get ticketed for expiration. Hopefully the jiggly pluggely trick will work in a week or 2. <rolleyes>

I just bought a 2004 WRX and had the airbag light come on in the first week. I thought for sure I was going to have to pay the dealership to figure it out. Thanks to your post I saved a minimum of $110!

Default You Da' Man Unabomber!

Pressed them clips together, and the light stayed on...moment of disappointment... sprayed a bit of contact cleaner in there as I noticed there was some discoloration, presto! Light gone.

You just saved my 15 yo $100 at the stealer for a diagnostic and I'm sure a few hundred more in replacing a non-faulty module, etc.

Thanks Unabomber and NASIOC.

Next issue....

What if there are no wires at all under the passenger seat? There is one white connector under the driver side but nothing under the passenger...
