It's to get past a certain type of spam filter (that I CANNOT remember the name of), that recognizes patterns in email by their part of speach. I think...

It's spammers making sure your email addres is still valid.

Someone back me up on that.

Even though I have never heard of such a thing (Which means absolutely nothing in and of itself), your hypothesis seems reasonable.

You can get that by carrying a normal conversation with someone while a slow computer is running voice recognition. It has trouble keeping up and spits out some creative things.
