Question Will a Recaro Ergomed's side airbag work with an '07 WRX or STI?

Hello,

I'm fairly new here but I'm about to buy a new WRX or possibly even STI, one issue though, the seats don't really work for me (especially with the STI). The left seat cushion bolster digs into my (admittedly rotund) posterior, so I'm seriously contemplating swapping out the driver's seat for a Recaro. Given that the way I'm getting this car however is from insurance settlement payment from a previous near-deadly accident, safety is a big priority for me.

I understand that the Recaro Ergomed is the only aftermarket sport seat in the world with an integrated side airbag, and that it was designed for Audis and MBs, my question is this... would it integrate with the Subaru side airbag system, or do I have to forfeit the driver's side side airbag when going with an aftermarket seat no matter what?

Please help me out here, this is very important to me.

Thanks in advance,

-YoungDriver

If you purchase an aftermarket seat, you will lose the airbag no matter what. The Recaro Ergomed is not available aftermarket with an airbag. If you were considering on getting it through the dealer that's an OE seat, or find one used. PM me if you have any other questions on sourcing the seat.

Thanks for clearing that up, Speedware.

I was confused as to why some sites advertised the airbag and others made no mention of it.

I guess at this point it comes down to a safety versus comfort argument.
and since the Ergomed doesn't have the side airbag I simply can't justify it's huge cost, now I'm eyeing the Style Topline, particularly since I could get two for the price of one Ergomed.

The Style Topline is a great seat, and looks absolutely amazing in black leather.

I realize it's largely a byproduct of what seat bracket I use, but can you tell me, is it possible to gain more headroom from switching out the stock WRX and/or WRX STI seats for Recaro Style Toplines and if so about how much? I'd really like to have a moonroof but at least with the stock seats I just don't have enough headroom, it's not that the car's undriveable, but if I got into an accident my head would strike the moonroof housing and that's grossly unacceptable.
