What is the best Oil Filter for the RS. I keep hearing that Mobil 1 doesn't make one.
I am using Bosch but wanted Mobil 1. Anyone have suggestions? Thanxx for any input you can add.

The best is the Subaru OEM, period!
You won't go wrong with it, and it takes all the mystery out of whether you are really getting your money's worth with something else. ASNG |

I have used the Mobil 1 oil filter M104 (I believe). The only thing I didn't like about the filter was that it didn't thread on very far. BUT, this is why they aren't recommended for our cars. I used it, and I raced with it and didn't have a problem.
I usually use Purolator, which is what the Subaru OEM filter seems to be. SteveS |

I use the Subaru factory filter, it's dirt cheap through Subaruparts.com, Troncalli Subaru, QSubaru, etc. You need the drain plug crush washers from anyway, so why not buy the filter too? (not based on price-- convenience. The crush washers are practically free.)
It is a Purolater filter though. Dunno if they make a PureOne for the EJ series. |

For my first oil change on MY01 I used A Hastings filter. From what I have heard they
are one of the best. The guy where I get my parts said they are the best. I also use them on my 64 malibu. |

I heard that Fram filters will implode(or explode?) due to our boxer engine's pressure. Is that true? I heard it on the old Impreza message board, CheckPoint, last year.

Yes, there have been reports of Frams exploding on Subaru engines. Frams used to be good filters, but today they are the absolute worst. No joke.

Try the Bosch Filters, AutoZone carries them. That's all I've been using.

I've used Fram filters on my 99RS. No problems. What's the deal with trying to find the "best" filter??? I doubt filters make *that* much of a difference. IMHO, I think that's stretching it a bit. C'mon...

The OEM filters are Purolator filters. Can be easily purchased at any autopart stores.

Something to keep in mind when choosing a filter is that I was told by a knowledgable Sube salesman that using oil filters other than the Subaru may void your warranty, depending on how anal the service department is. So, if you drive with something else, you might wanna put on a stock filter before getting your car serviced.

It is against the law for any dealer or car manufacturer to void your warranty for using an aftermarket part in place of an OEM part (such as filters, plugs, wipers, etc.) unless the dealer and/or car manufacturer is providing those OEM parts for free.
It's been discussed here a million times. Check http://www.sema.org for more information on the law. |
