Default Red Light Violation

For you who got a ticket for making a right turn on red light, tell me your stories if you got out of it.

I was making a right on 2800 W. Diversity, I watched the video again and noticed that my front wheels were already passed the line when I made a right turn on YELLOW light, and then my back wheels passed when the light was red.

Tell me your stories.

Not sure what the law is but I can tell you my mom got a ticket for turning right on a yellow (no camera, just a dick in a uniform).
Told her you have to stop when making a turn even on green, didn't say why?
The only thing I can think of is to watch for those pesky obstacles called pedestrians.

They take video and pictures and review them on a case by case basis, iirc your WHOLE car has to be past the line else its considered blowing the light, just pay the ticket and carry on blowing red lights

If I remember driver's ed from High school, it's if any part of the car has entered the intersection. again, not sure if that covers turns.

"The definition of running a red light is when any part of your car is in still in the 'intersection' which is defined by the opposite direction's (on the same road are you're on) white stop line, while going the speed limit."

Granted its from yahoo
http://answers.yahoo.com/question/in...9020852AAA1JgB

But

* Permissive yellow rule:
o Driver can legally enter intersection during entire yellow interval
o Violation occurs if driver enters intersection after onset of red
* Restrictive yellow rule:
o Driver can neither enter nor be in intersection on red
o Violation occurs if driver has not cleared intersection after onset of red

http://safety.fhwa.dot.gov/intersect...s022509/short/

It comes down to what lights are permissive yellow and what are restrictive

No if my understanding is right, a restrictive yellow is when there are pedestrians in the intersection, and a permissive is when it is clear, could be wrong all the info on the web is scattered about.

Would just be safer to slow and stop on yellow

If you say its not you, you get this

they would mail you the pictures and a photograph of you sitting in the drivers seat. hence the 3 flashes. front, close up, rear. if you dont see 3 flashes your fine.

Even if you only saw 2 flashes there is a video feed that accompanies every offense, its the same crap with Ipass, they just ticket the vehicle owner no matter who is driving

Isn't it just a 100$ fine and considered a non-moving violation?

You still need to stop at a red before turning right on red (or yellow turning red). That stop should be long enough after the red to not trigger the camera. If it set to pick up post red light runners 98% of tickets would be going to the Chicago Police.

I'm pretty sure the city does not deal directly with the cameras, instead a 3rd party maintains and issues tickets and just give the cities a cut of the profits?

Nice number
