Using a lower grade fuel increases detonation and decreases engine health over time. You want your WRX to last, right?

Even if I drive like a grandma..

I was just brought up ever since I started learning automotive that the harder you drive it the more octane you need. I understand there are circumstances where some cars (my Grandpas cadillac) which says right by the gas gauge "Premium Unleaded Fuel Only" But like with my car I never really exceed 3,000rpm so I just don't feel the need to fill it up with premium.

Even if you drive like a grandma, you're running an aftermarket tune on an STi longblock. I don't know about your Bugeye, but mine says to only use premium right in the owner's manual, and I'm not even running a EJ257 like you. Running a 89 or lower octane on a 93 octane tune will induce increased knock and thus increased wear on your engine internals. Also, using a mid-grade fuel on a pro/shelf tune, you will get a lower MPG than with 93 octane, resulting in a lower amount of savings at the pump than you think you may be getting.

You have a great setup and clearly have invested a decent amount of time and money into it, it'd be a shame to see increased detonation screw up all the effort you've put into this.

Please, for the love of God, stay out of boost until you start running 93 octane.

You have an STi and rarely go over 3,000 rpm?! Sell that car now and buy yourself a Fiesta and floor it everywhere! Lower cost to maintain, same performance for the way you currently drive and better gas mileage!

Also using your logic would equate to eating at McD's everyday because you aren't professional athlete. Doing that would mess up your insides like low grade gas can mess up your engine.
