Effect of added front LSD to my WRX handling ...
In a few days I'm going to have a STI helical Torsen2 front Limited Slip installed in my SM WRX. Can anyone give me a preview of how it will change the handling of my car. I'm wondering if I will need to soften my rear springs. I was going to go from 450/550 springs to 550/650 springs .. but I realize that adding the LSD might change my handling enough to need a different approach to spring rates.
We had our first local California Sports Car Club Championship event last Sunday. Through the first two rounds I was in 2nd place ... went all out of my last lap ... over did it ... and slipped to 5th when three others found more speed. A nicely prepped and driven M3 won ... over two Camaro's one of which has around 440 hp and check out those tires! A very well prepped Integra from a local race shop was fourth. The time difference between first and my fifth was 0.7 seconds. I'm really looking forward to that LSD ... right now I have to be so judicious feeding in power on corner exit. Winning M3 ... Check out those monster tires! Mine ... 225/45/17 Hoosier S04's While others Froze we had gorgeous weather! Ken Motonishi ...

We put a Quaife in our DSP RS so the result may not be the exact same. We noticed a huge improvement in front end traction both upon entry and exiting corners. Applying throttle mid corner makes the front end bite more. The more we roll into it, the more it wants to bite and come 'round. Flatfooting sections where we used to lift is now the norm.
We still have an open rear diff at the moment, so as we lift the rear inside, it gets alot more power than before, lighting up easier. We havent changed springs since the LSD was put in, but have gone bigger on the bars. I don't think you'll have to change springs unless you get a locking diff in the rear. Joel Gat has some good insight that he posted moons ago during the development of the SMR racecar. If anything, you might go to 500F 550R. Jay Storm |

Mako,
I have two words for you: Fender Flares -Steve (who has more rubber on his 2,200 lb SM2 car than Mako has on his 2,900 lb SM car. ) |

Jay nailed it. My RS (like his) also has a Quaife. Power earlier in the corner and not spinning that inside front. Now you'll spin the inside rear instead. Oh the joys of AWD.
Steve, SM2? Hmm, I'm running my '91 in SM. |

Vehicle:- Can I get a wayo |
i think you should drive it yourself before you think about changing anything else.
that way you can seperate the mods affects on the car better. |
