Default 2002 wrx New clutch installed Wont go in any gear

I have a 2002 wrx I just picked up. old owner replace the clutch with a new oem clutch and release bearing. it wont go in any gear when running. off it goes in now problem You can also start the car in gear with the clutch depressed and it works but the car trys to roll. I tried beleeding the clutch. still doing same thing. no release bearing noise at idle but when you fully depress clutch in nueltral I can hear the bearing spinning but not that loud.it looks like the fork is moving like an inch or so when depressing clutch.
Any ideas on what to try before popping out the trany and inspecting the clutch and release bearing/fork?
I am a noob.

Release bearing might not be engaged with the pressure plate. Hard to tell from here, get the previous owner to tow it to a garage to get it sorted out.

maybe the throwout bearing is shot? and maybe the clutch pedal needs to be adjusted. the clutch might not be fully disengaging from the engine

OP, fill out your profile and please double check your sentences. All sorts of interesting sentence structure in out there of grammar sentence words post thread.

How were you able to test drive the car if the clutch was that bad? Or was it working fine then? How did you get it home?

If you bought the car As-Is, you may be SOL. not sure what the laws are in your state (because I don't know what state you're in... Besides angry). But you may want to check what the private sale lemon laws are.

Definitely contact the seller though and try to get them to tow it to a shop and pay for the fix though. Don't mess around with it yourself, or they can claim it was something you did.

Good luck.

Default clutch issue

I bought the car knowing there is an issue. the car was only 800 bucks. The clutch has hardly any pedal know matter how much I bleed. I checked the fork it deff has pressure aginst it. If I have a friend pump it I do see the fork move about an inch if that. Should I try new master or slave cylinder?.

You got a mostly running WRX for $800?!?!

Head over to the technical forums and ask around there.

But kudos to you on that purchase! Unless you meant 8000... in which case... dummy.

Default Correct

Yea 800. Runs perfect just won't shift into gear like clutch isn't getting pressed far enough. Also has issue where running likes come on when you hook up battery

Pull the intercooler and look thru the window on the top of the tranny with a flashlight, make sure the release/throwout bearing and the fork are working. Next check the pin for the fork, it is located behind the starter and covered by a hex head plug. Use a writeup to help you understand things, http://www.iwsti.com/forums/how-inst...method-gd.html
I would back track the reinstallation part of a write up looking for issues. And check to make sure the floormats etc are not screwing with the pedal.
You can check the fork and throwout thru the window in the top of the tranny with a flashlight. Be careful about leaning on the fenders though. I have a dent on both sides from my buddy leaning a bit too hard.
It could be the fork is not properly into the two holes in the bearing, the pin for the fork not having its pin all the way in from not having the plug installed , or the unit that pushes the fork not being installed correctly.
Each one is an easy fix and does not involve the pain, cursing, and madness that comes with dropping the tranny.
Nice score on the car, even if you end up having to take it in to a shop and drop some coin into to it, you did well.

Could be the clutch slave. I had one go out on my eclipse once and I couldn't put it in gear unless the car was off. I also had one go on my legacy and could barley go into gear.

Also the system might need to be bled. If there's any air in there it won't fully disengage the clutch.

I would start with a good bleed and if that doesn't work try and new slave.

Edit: probably should have read the entire thread and OP before I posted... My bad.

Either Clutch Slave or the TOB wasnt snapped into the pressure plate.

Yep, the hydraulics aren't the main problem since the clutch isn't disengaging. I'd drop the trans and go from there.

Clutch is disengaging just not all the way. I fixed it by adjusting clutch pedal. Shifts perfectly now. Thanks for all the input
