I think that would be acceptable. Not only would it sweep the rug right out from under the accessport, but they would sell a ton. I'm sure it doesn't cost a quarter of that to make, so their markup would still be huge.

sorry to mess up this thread with my noob knowledge. do the Tactrix openport, or the LC-1 Lambda Cable come with a turbo timer? (the Turbo Timer lets your car idle for a few minutes after it's off and key is removed right?) would these two things together be a wise purchase? or are they the same thing? I think i remember somebody telling me to get a Lambda cable and open source tuning. Thanks for your help boys one way or another, somebody is trying to get a bunch of people to get in on a group buy for the 1.3 (?) opensource Tactrix, when the 2.0 is just days away. Noob or not i know not to get the old version of something. Thanks again.

TT is unrelated to the cables... Don't bother with the TT. Read the FAQs:

I'm not quite sure what you are asking. If you need help learning about tuning I would go to either the links at the end of the thread I posted or here:

http://www.romraider.com/forum/

Read all the FAQ that you can stand and start looking in the tuning section in the forum there and here as well. There are a few good books as well.

Engine Management: Advanced Tuning

How to Tune and Modify Engine Management Systems

As far as the computer side of things Romraider is pretty self-explanatory for logging and altering the roms (the re-writable part of the ecu). You will have to use ecuflash (the program written by the guys from tactrix) to read and write those roms to your ecu. The more you read from the ecuflash and romraider site the better.

I think you'll load the map onto the openport, take the openport out to your car and use it to flash. so no, you won't be toting the desktop to the garage

Umm, except for the fact that it doesn't allow you to do standalone flashing.

Eeeeh. You will still have fat, lazy douchebags like me who are too chicken to tune their own cars.

I use the Tactrix for datalogging, so I will say it's a God send there.

As for open source tuning, I may decide to go that route one day, once real-time tuning is here.

The AP will always sell to your average, "How much more HP can I get for under $1000?" types.
