I will definitely share. I like the ease and temporary nature of the cigarette lighter mount (probably won't need the AP out all the time) but feel the seat rail mount could really work well. I'm probably never going to go past a stage 1 tune but all the extra gauges are actually pretty neat

Default 2015 V3 mount (stock mount)

I couldn't get a clear line of sight on either side of the steering wheel, so I went to the right of the radio. I passed the OBD II cord behind the center stack and tucked it (mostly) under the plastic trim on the passenger side

I do like the vent clip mount though....I wish the Accessport had a 'landscape' orientation option, like my old DashHawk did.......of course, then I'd need a 90 degree angled cable.

If you like the window mount idea get a Garmin suction cup mount on eBay for $2 the ball and socket are a direct fit. That's what I use on my 09 wrx I ran my obdII cable through the fuse panel area and through the defrost vent by the A pillar with a slight trim to the vent for a prefect fit.... I saw the pic on here somewhere and it's a super clean look

yarp i use a suction cup mount on my 15' in the same location. I can still install my sunshade when I park my car without having to remove it which is nice.

Also, for 2015 owners, the vent mount DOES NOT FIT the highly-angled vents on the new car. I don't know if one exists that does fit but the vent mounts on the first page of this thread are the same that I have and i couldn't get it to fit whatsoever due to the difference in angle from the bottom slats to the top slats.

Thanks, good to know!! I think I may go with the suction mount on the left side. That weatherstripping is handy, it's where I tucked my radar detector power cable.

Alright, here are some pics of the two mounts I bought and installed.

First up is the cigarette lighter mount. it's short, cheap, easy to install and mounts in a good position. The main downside is that it's floppy and wiggly...the 12v power plug just isn't the most stable mount point. And what's nice is that it gives you a USB charging port so you don''t lose the primary use of that port. i'm not returning it; it's a clever solution though it won't be my primary mount. it is EXCELLENT as a temporary mount for people who aren't running the AP full time - once they have a stable tune.

Product: Amazon.com: ARKON Lighter Socket Universal Car Mounting Pedestal with USB Charger for Dual T Pattern Compatible Devices--Replacement or Upgrade - Car Mounts - Retail Packaging - Black: Cell Phones & Accessories

Installed Pic:

Next up is the seat bolt floor mount. It works very well with ever so slight modification. It is VERY stable and can be oriented pretty much any way. It's a great product with flexible mounting options. The bracket i used can attch to the gooseneck in several different ways at different angles, and it also comes with a mounting plate if you were to want to drill into the body of the vehicle instead of use the seat mount bolt. Could be an inch taller but it's fine. Only blocks the last couple of inches or so of forward seat travel - way further than you'd ever move it with a human being in the front seat. I will be using this as my primary mount until i no longer need the AP mounted full-time. Once i get my CBE mounted and the car protuned, i probably won't need it much, so i may revert to the temporary mount as needed (the one above).

Product: Amazon.com: ARKON Replacement Upgrade or Additional Metal Car or Truck Seat Rail or Floor Mounting Pedestal with 18-Inch Flexible Gooseneck(GN088-SBH): Computers & Accessories

Installed Pics:

Now - as for modification and install details...the main thing is that the bolt for the seat rail is surrounded by raised metal, especially on the left side near the transmission tunnel. You CAN install this w/o any modification but i wanted it to be turned as far as possible, so i cut a piece out of the mounting bracket so the left side of it could clear that raised metal.

Picture of the piece i cut out with a hacksaw:

Detail of bolt/installation area. You can see really well where the cutout on the bracket helps keep it rotated toward the trans tunnel. I used the right holes because if you use the left holes, the mount cants straight forward. i wanted it angled toward the trans tunnel so i had to mount to the right holes and make the cutout. hope that makes sense:

And finally, detail of what actually stops the seat as you max out its forward movement with the mount installed. I admit that it is possible that the seat MAY move forward more if you use the other holes because the mount may clear the seat slide release...but if you do that the gooseneck isnt as close to the trans tunnel because you can't angle the bracket toward the tunnel like i did in the pic above. If you want to use the other holes, you can't hacksaw the bottom hole out like i did.

Hope that helps! BTW you can see that the accessory rubber/all weather mats have no fitment issues...i bet weathertech mats would though b/c they cover a lot more.

EDIT: Slight Revision. Major improvement. It was bugging me the way the seat adjustment bar was hitting the mount and i did want the gooseneck part of the mount to kind of sit closer to (flush with) the trans tunnel for a cleaner install. Well - remembered seeing a hole in the middle of that mounting bracket and sure enough it lets you attach the gooseneck section to the bracket at an angle. Amazingly, the net result is a perfectly vertical mount that clears the seat! So happy with this...much improved. The seat can now move almost all the way forward and the gooseneck runs right alongside the trans tunnel.

See how the top screw isn't in the same spot? It's in the middle now:

So the result is this overall look - much better - and vertical:

And look at how the seat clears now - it now reaches the second to last detent:

Fantastic. The gooseneck can now follow the contour of the trans tunnel, making for a cleaner look and allowing the seat to travel fully forward. EXCELLENT result.

How are you running the cable? Is the cable it comes with long enough to reach?

cable is pretty long. it's long enough to reach for sure but its not currently installed...haven't run that behind the center stack yet. won't be an issue though. am going to velcro or zip tie it to the gooseneck mount to try to keep it as clean as possible.

Sounds good. My AP comes in tomorrow and I like that setup. Though I might end up using it for my phone instead.

I just had my car pro tuned at COBB Surgeline yesterday and interestingly when they brought it out to go over everything with me they gave me a brand new suction cup window mount. Mine was stuck to the radio bezel like they show on their site and I'd never had a problem with it, but they even told me eventually they fall off. So I removed the old mount and cleaned off the sticky and it looks so much cleaner now! Just have to get used to the AP being to my left now instead of my right.

This s**t pisses me off. You buy a $650 tuning tool from them and they give you a cheap a** mount that they admit isn't a good long term mounting solution. Then they go and charge an additional $65 for a mount that does work properly. For $650 the better mount should come with the Accessport, period.

"Oh, you want something that actually works properly? That will be extra."

Don't get me wrong, I'm a fan of COBB overall but this is the type of bulls**t business practice you'd expect from a company like Comcast or Chase Bank. Not COBB.

But they actually gave it to me for free. Maybe if you call and complain they'll send you one?

I get that and it's great that they gave you a free one. But it's a kick in the face to their customers in general.

I may raise a stink about this with them and see what happens. But I don't want them to just say, "ok sorry. Here is a free suction mount." I want them to stop charging all of their customers extra for a mount that should come with the Accessport to begin with.

EDIT: I took your advice and sent the following email to their support email. We'll see if I hear anything back.

"Hello,

I recently purchased the COBB "Stage 1 Power Package" with the intake/box and Accessport (AP3-SUB-003-UP) from Rallysport Direct for $910.

The intake and Accessport have been working perfectly. However, the tape on the mounting bracket gave away after just 1 month of use and will not allow the mount to stay secured anywhere on the dash. I've been reading car forums and found many others who have experienced the same issue. After going on your website and seeing that you sell a proper mount (V3 Center Mount) for an additional $65 I've become quite frustrated.

After paying $910 for your Stage 1 package I do not feel that I should have to pay an additional $65 for a mount that should have come with the Accessport in the first place. It doesn't help that your employees have also admitted to members on NASIOC that the mount that comes with the Accessport does not last long and is not a good long-term solution. This appears to be a way of nickel and diming your customers to get more money out of them for something that should have worked 100% properly for the initial cost of $910.

Quite frankly, I'm disappointed. I would expect these types of business practices from less reputable companies but not from you.

Best regards,

......"

The cheap double sided tape that comes on the Cobb mount just won't cut it. Go buy some 3m automotive tape. Haven't had any problems even with 110+ temps.

Understood. But again, we shouldn't have to "band-aid" something we just paid $650 for. COBB should fix this on their end.

essentially all that is what led me to the alternatives i posted. cheaper and no tape needed. i'm just not applying automotive double sided tape to the trim in my car for the AP...

It's not like the automotive 3m will hurt the trim. I have used it for the ap an my navigation. I even peeled it off the trim bezel around the radio an it left no trace. But I totally agree, for the price we paid you think we would get the correct mount in the first place.

Plus personally I like the bezel location so I can easily monitor and not have to look down.
