Unhappy At least I know what my kid will be for Halloween

Looks like a hockey player for the next 4 years.

So on Thursday I dropped my daughter off at daycare as normal with a lunch for a field trip. Well not more than an hour later I get a call that she has been hurt. I guess she went down a slide and then rolled to her stomach to back off the end and an other kid came down the slide and hit her in the mouth with their foot.
I spent most of the day in the ER and at the dental clinic and then ending up pulling both of her front teeth. So she now has to go the next 4 years with out front teeth until her adult teeth grow in. She seems to be handling it well right now but has made comments about not wanting her teeth to be gone

Anyone have experience with this? My Ex is hinting that she wants to look in to a retainer with teeth for her and mentioning that it could cause a speech issue for her. None of the experts in the dental clinic that see this all the time mentioned any possible speech issues so I don't know how valid her concerns are. I just don't want to put my daughter through any more trips to the doctor or dentist than she needs unless it becomes a major social or developmental issue.

The picture is a bit bloody but I know how OT likes its pictures.

ouch. Sorry, dude.
It's always painful for the parent to see the kid suffer. Of course, now she's really gonna have to trick the tooth fairy.

Oh poor kiddo!!

They might could do a "partial" for her...false teeth, but instead of dentures, they just replace the two she's missing. However, you'd have to see if your dental insurance covers that, otherwise that could mean $$$ out of pocket.

I don't know about the speech thing, unless your ex is thinking she'll develop a lisp or something. My cousin's front teeth were knocked out in an accident when he was little. They just waited for his adult teeth to grow in, and he's just fine...no speech impediments.

just let her be. what ever speech issues it may cause will go away once her adult teeth grow in.

when I was 9 or so I had growth issues with my front teeth...my baby teeth weren't falling out and my adult teeth were growing in...so I had my 4 top, front teeth pulled at the same time...I never had problems with speech impediments or anything and they all grew in eventually...I got braces when I was a freshman in high school (I think)...and that was that...

she should be fine...at least it isn't 4 teeth! and at least she didn't get her jaw broken or anything...the last thing she would want is her mouth wired shut...

Ya sucks to see your little one like that but I am sure as the days go by it will be better for everyone. The tooth fairy was hard because to a 4 year old 50 cents is the same as 500 bucks so money is not really a reward.

In the first day it happened no less than 4 people I know fairly well said the same thing happened to them and they had no long term effects. It does suck to be the girl with no teeth (leave it alone OT) when you start school but I don't see the point in making her do anything painful or uncomfortable for vanity sake.

And don't get me wrong I have perspective and know it could have been much much worse and if this is all that happened we are lucky.

Dayum! Sorry to see that That had to make your stomach drop. Glad she's taking it well, though.

Of course, she's going to be the most popular girl at the rainbow parties, so there's your silver lining.

Just like it feels strange for you to not buckle 10 car seats when you go somewhere, a thread seem incomplete with out an Asinine comment no matter how sick that is.
