Anyone know much about Bowie, MD?
My friend is moving to Baltimore, so I was looking at some jobs, found a nice salary in Bowie, MD, however I feel this is like meeting a girl on the internet, sounds great but what does she look like? Is Bowie a Safe area? Bad area? Is there stuff to do there? On the same points, what are some nice safe areas to live that have alot of automotive jobs within a reasonable commute to the Baltimore area?
Thought about asking here as it looks like most of the members are from around the DC area. Thanks in advance for any info. Drew

It's OUT THERE!! I've driven there on only one occasion - don't expect to be able to do much without driving 30 minutes.

Well, depending on where in Balto you are coming
from and where in Bowie you are headed, it can be anywhere from a 20 minute commute, or an hour+ commute. Also, if it's during the rush hours, add about 1/2 hour as well. Bowie does have some very nice ares, as well as some not so nice areas. Stick near the north eastern side of things and you should be OK. (Relativly speaking, this IS the DC Metro area) Prince Georges County (where Bowie is) does not have the best reputation these days and it's not getting better. Some of the Bowie folk have been trying to get Bowie out of PG county for some time now. You will have to look around in Bowie and find some of the newer portions on the east side and you should be fine. But you will pay for living there, BTW, just not as much as North VA. There are Auto shops all over the place and they are all busy. At least it appears that way to me. |

Ehhhh i live right outside of bowie and its not that bad ....but it is Prince Georges county which ....well isnt the best county in the state. There are some bad areas but your gonna find that everywhere. Its not really out there, like other have said.....not to terribly far from DC and not far from Baltimore....about 20 minutes drive from Annapolis....from what i understand they just built a nice sized mall there....never been to it. I mean i guess it depends on the type of person you are .....do you want something a lil out of the way like the in lil neighborhoods or would you like the city life......if you like neighborhoods then Boiwe is ok .....if you want city life ....then ummmmmmm ya look else where. You might want to look around Annapolis, Arnold, Crofton, Odenton, or severna Park these are all nicer areas but all releativly close to one another

Thanks all, for the information.
Now JB, do you mean run as in move up there, or run as in stay away?
Thanks all for the tid-bits, I am going to make some calls around the area up there, kinda nerve-racking to totally relocate...so I am going to give this alot of thought....I come from a pretty much sheltered town, and am not really sure if city life is it for me, however just a little off the beaten path would be fine. |
