For NA I should think EZ by far the best especially EZ36, the factory clearances are “minimal” the factory piston to wall clearance on my engine was less than a thou

I don't trust the 3.6... Being at the limits of the block before adding anything to it leads me to feel it will be destroyed too easily with even bolt ons. We've already seen it can't handle any boost because of forcing the stroke and everything.

ez30 is more practical. otherwise eg33 is better. uses ej22 pistons etc.

EG33 uses it's own pistons that are the same bore as the 2.2, but are not the 2.2 pistons.

A rod to suit the EG33 is the majority of Subaru rods on the market. Almost any EJ rod is interchangeable with EG33 rods.
I understand that you can use EJ22 pistons, they're just completely not optimum for the EG's combustion chamber.

^This.
While the work, it does not mean they match or any specific EJ22, of which there are a few, uses the same piston. Hell the EJ255 and EJ257 are nearly identical until you get to small details like the combustion chamber volume in the head and the pistons' dish volume.

fair enough guys. i've seen plenty of pretty mean eg33's with them so they can't be too sub-optimal...

4psi/no intercooler made 290whp. 51% power increase.

No intercooler because you don't need one really on a pro charger. Interesting how Paul chose to mount the belts... Hmmm...

Where have we seen that?

It's at ECS so likely there or local. You are based out of CT after all. And yeah I've seen a LOT of reputable places say you need to spend like $3k on a custom crank to hold up. Could be on race gas or something but I don't trust it

i'd imagine it's 51% max gain over stock. obviously marketing...

point was though that they handle boost.

here's the boosted ez36 owners thread guys:

http://legacygt.com/forums/showthrea....html?t=227730

turns out he had an exhaust on it, which makes a MASSIVE difference to sc'd engines.

Exhaust makes a difference on every car... That's not exactly some kinda big news. Also doesn't prove it can really handle boost. Just that some light boost can be applied. Now an EJ222 can handle boost in stock form VERY well! If we can see a 10+ lb regular use or even rare track day or autocross 3.6 surviving that will be news. I'm still wondering though why the new FA's are handling boost where the EZ36 that their tech was originally tested on aren't. Specifically the crank and rod configuration combo.

With the talk of bringing back the SVX for 2017 and that it will have an assumed new 3.3 flat six with very tempting numbers! Now THAT motor I would love! Mostly cause of the final addition of DPFI! Even more expensive to work on, but SO WORTH IT!!!

my point was that the exhaust shows the gains aren't quite what we thought they would be.

also found a decent turbo to maybe buy. unsure how to run the oil line though. sammich plate/T line from the oil cooler? nfi about what oil pressure should be in the turbo.

hey guys,

I have been pretty busy so I haven't been able to get on here much. Not to take you away from the 3.6L discussion, but i figured i'd let you know that I pretty much finished my swap. Still messing with the tune to get all the kinks out, but as of yesterday I am dailying it. It runs nice and has a bunch of torque. Really fun to drive around town. I'm only running 5psi right now but I'm gonna bump it up soon.

To answer your questions from before vicious_fishes I did something very similar to cardoc to get the wrx injectors to fit. They were 5mm shorter than the stock ones so I cut the rail mounts down 6mm just to make sure I got a good seal. Then I took the weird tips off the stock ones and put them on the wrx ones. That part was very easy. Both injectors have the same head once you remove the weird tip the stock ones have. I just moved the o-ring and tip over to the new ones. to get the seal for the vac/boost line running through there I made a collar the same as the stock injectors out of delrin on the lathe and jb welded it to the new injector in the right spot. I would put some pictures up but am still figuring out how to do that ha.

Anyway just thought I should tell you there is a running boosted EZ30 STI in New Jersey as of yesterday!
